In 1820, Percy Bysshe Shelley, wrote, "To a Skylark," http://oldpoetry.com/poetry/25585
Yet the moment it was written, Shelley knew it would loose it's art status with time, indeed in 'Defense of Poetry '(1822) Shelley realises that "even the greatest poetry will, through time, become nothing more than signs for classes of thought, loosing its poetic edge as a result".
But he could not foresee that sixty seven years later it would be returned to the fore by another great poet.
The dust of the lark that Shelley heard,
And made immortal through times to be; -
Though it only lived like another bird,
And knew not its immortality.
Thomas Hardy wrote "Shelley's Skylark," http://oldpoetry.com/poetry/12876
Not just a poem about the image Shelley had put to poetry, but the image of Shelley and his poem together.
I would like you to read and comment on the two poems above, then I would like you to pick any poem and poet from the oldpoetry.com archives and write a poetic tribute to the poet of your choice and the selected poem.
Please leave a reference in the poem's notes on which poem and author your poem represents. (sometimes I can't see the obvious
)
This is your opportunity to promote and revive your favourite poem/poet.
Have fun, and bring life to those who have gone before.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on September 14, 2003
- Rewards: Gold: 300
- Final notes:
hide: Thank you for taking part and supporting OldPoetry. Dispite the lack of entries, both serious submissions were extreamly good, that added to the very different style has made this a difficult one to judge and I wish I could give you both first place. Andrew

Hi Chris,
Any poet featured at Oldpoetry, and there are a lot to choose from.
Andrew -
interesting spin on contests.

A quick question. Can OP site admin enter these challenges?
If so, I might enter. I am disappointed that this has gotten only one entry and has been open for so long.
