So You Think You Can Rhyme?
I've read a lot of rhyming poems on AP - some good; some not so good - but in a few cases, I've been blown away by the rhymes people come up with - rhymes for words that I would've never even tried to rhyme.
So, here's the challenge:
1) Write a rhyming poem with good meter and rhyme of no less than 10 lines of text and no more than 30.
2) Use at least 6 of the words listed in the word bank below IN A RHYMING POSITION. In other words, you must find the best rhymes you can for at least 6 of the words from the word bank. "Perfect" rhymes may not be possible so that's NOT what I'm necessarily looking for; I'm looking for the most creative approximations you can find. The more creative, the better!
3) Feel free to use internal or end rhyme and any meter you like as long as it's consistent.
WORD BANK:
texture
maneuver
solitude
anxious
element
chaos
purple
orange
siren
rhythm
music
soothe
liquid
zigzag
comedy
tragedy
rosary
résumé
diamond
galaxy
MY PREFERENCES:
1) I prefer poems that tell a good story - in rhyme, of course.
2) I prefer poems that give me pause and make me think.
3) Good vocabulary and proper punctuation mean a lot.
THE RULES:
1) No use of the f-word, sticky caps, or chat lingo!
2) No prose or free verse.
3) No religion bashing.
4) No suicide, teen drama, murder, rape, or anything too dark.
5) Be nice and have fun!

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on November 3
- Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 2 people
- Final notes: Congratulations to all the finalists! This contest had a better showing that I could've ever expected. It was an extremely close contest with only 1 point separating the top 3 finalists (I hope you guys don't mind my scoring system; it helped me differentiate between some very good poems!)
Here're some of the best rhymes you guys came up with, IMHO:
"Fred Maneuver - stain remover"
"fella meant - element"
"tatty and purple - hot waxy fur pull"
"siren - wirin' (hirin')"
"slick wid (wick did) - liquid"
"texture of her skin - pleasurable sin"
"rosary - hosiery"
"texture - perplexed her"
"resume - yes you may"
Muy fabuloso! Thanks a million to all who entered! I loved reading ALL of your poems!

Maybe I am missing somethin g, but are those words actual 2 words together or is each word singly listed. My computer is showing them together.

I listed two words on the same line but there should be a space between them. I'll fix it to make it clearer. Thanks for the note!
