I want poetry or stories in the form of poetry about witches. Now there are two paths you can choose from - the dark, macabre, scary approach or the factual Salem witch trials- approach. Either way, these two intertwine and cross paths with each other, because yes, truth is just as strange as fiction. Both are welcome here.
'Double, Double, toil and trouble. Fire burn and cauldron bubble. Eye of newt and toe of frog, wool of bat and tongue of dog. Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting, lizzard's leg and owlet's wing. For a charm of powerful trouble- like hell-broth boil and bubble' Macbeth
'Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live' Bible
'Tis now the very witching time of night, when churchyards yawn and Hell itself breathes out, contagion to this world' William Shakespeare
'I have seen the shadows where they dance with the Devil. I have seen the crow, I have seen the blood bleeding into a book of black. I have seen the witch, I have seen her naked- conjuring her spells in the dark of night. I have seen the moon, I have seen the sun - as they combine into one another. Sickened be those of the light, tainted excuse of human life'
'My mother says I must not pass, too near that glass. She is afraid that I will see, a little witch that looks like me. With a red mouth to whisper low, the very thing I should not know' Sarah Morgan Bryant Piatt
'Ask yourself, Will I burn in Hell? Then write it down and cast it in the well. There they are - the mob cries for blood, to twist and tale into fire wood. Fan the flames with a little lie, then turn your cheek until the fire dies. The skin, it peels like the truth, away. What it was I will never say... Bite your tongue, swear to keep- keep your mouth shut. Make up something, make up something good... Holding hands, skipping like a stone- burn the witch, burn to ash and bone'
Read through these. Accumilate wisdom, if you so wish. I want to feel the witch's earthly breath on my neck. Tell me a tale that will make my bones crack and crumble under the suspense. Fantasy or fact, or even both intertwined...tis your tale to tell.
*No humorous poetry.
*Check spelling and grammar
*Rhyme if you are good at it
*Be unique and attempt to shiver my bones
*The quotes given are not prompts, they are just there to tickle your senses. You may use one or all as a prompt, if you so wish
*Reserves are allowed, and perhaps later, pre-writes
- Now allowing pre-writes. If it does not fit the prompt, I will DQ you.
