HUGUENAUTIES CONTEST No. #50 Dreams

FOR MEMBERS OF HUGH WYLES FAVOURITES GROUP ONLY.

King Hugh wrote to me, "One must be a dreamer to be a poet."

Dreams come to us not only in sleep, but as inspirations and goals in life. Dreams are a refuge and comfort, a mark to aim for. Sometimes our dreams fail and we need new ones.

Please give us poems about daydreams, describing the ideal place and circumstances that you would like to make real.

Although I may not be present at the end of the contest, King Hugh assures me that the contest will be run in a consistent and orderly manner. Best wishes to all of you, and good luck! Margaret

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 24
  • Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 150, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 3 people
  • Final notes:
As MargaretG is in transit (in Canada) with only intermittent access to Internet, she has asked me to close her contest for her. I am happy to do so because it was a good subject which attracted many fine entries.
It was sad that Masterblaster, whose entry "A Dream within a Dream" had gained highest points, failed to register a vote even though I extended the time and sent reminders. She therefore forfeited her points and placing in the contest. Congratulations to Catz, Angelica and Maureen who therefore win the top awards.
Congratulations also to Blushfulmoon, Heathcore and Pixiestix who won Honourable Mention over
many highly commendable entries. Thanks to all who entered - as dreamers, you have shown yourselves to be fine poets.

    On Voting in Huguenauties Contests.

Some Huguenauties, I have learned of late,
will not join our contests or participate
‘coz if they ‘get in the boat’, they as entrants have to vote
and they tell me that’s the bit that they most hate.

But to exercise your judgement is a skill
which it’s worthwhile to develop if you will.
You will very quickly find that it sharpens up your mind
and to find you picked the winners is a thrill.

Please don’t vote just for those persons you like best
or the ones you’d like to host the next contest.
Choose, for better or for worse, what you think’s the better verse
or the ones which, as you read them, most impressed.

When you’ve judged them all, you’ll find before you know it,
that you’ve suddenly become a better poet.
So why not join the fun if you haven’t yet begun
and try entering our next – or will you blow it ??

    Hugh Wyles, November 24th.2009.
