Holidays and special days - November BIG POINTS

We all know Thanksgiving in the U.S. is in November. But did you know that there are a whole host of other special days in November? Click on the link below, go to the November page, pick a special day and write a bit of light verse about it, or whatever style of poetry seems appropriate. (I guess Black Tuesday should have a more serious poem - except that was in October!). ANYWAY...

I held a contest like this a while back and it was lots of fun. Since this is about November, 2009, which isn't quite here yet, prewrites won't be allowed for this contest.

Rhyme or not, as you wish. If you choose to rhyme, please make sure you do it well. I'm a very good rhymer, so I will be judging closely. I happen to think that in a contest, spelling and proper structure and technique are important. Please write accordingly.

The list shown you recommend does not note what is surely the most important "Day" of all for poets and poetry-lovers - St Hilda's Day - 17 November - she is the patron saint of English (i.e. English language) poetry,

There are also, by the way, quite a few other important days that your list does not mention - "National Days" of several countries - including Scotland, Poland, and Albania, to mention the first few that come to mind.

I didn't claim to have an exhaustive list of special days, nor do I think one exists that would have every special day on it. And you want me to include other countries? I don't have enough hours in the day to deal with that! In order to have a level playing field, please use the list I've given a link to. cq
