- Final notes: I wish to thank everyone who took time to enter my contest. I even got some chuckles from a not so funny subject matter. Now I have a confession to make. My reason for this contest was to allow you the writers to help me vent because I've recently released myself from an abusive marriage. I truly believed this man to be the love of my life for the past fifteen years. I'm not making excuses for him(NOT THAT STUPID!) but this shit came suddenly out of the blue and I ended it just as quickly. I'm not a forgiving person when it comes to my personal welfare. Nope, knock me upside the head and you gotta go.I believe this is how it should be.Abuse is unacceptable. I hope in reading and or writing these pieces someone else receives this message. I truly thank you all for your entries and congrats to the winner.

I am grateful for the honor you've given me by awarding me with the Gold Cup!
I have suffered abuse only once in my adult life and it was not from my spouse but a cousin's boyfriend, high on angel dust. I won't go into details but the young man was taken to jail for his abuses against my cousin, his parents, and countless other women. He broke my foot in five places as I tried my best to help my cousin while he was assaulting her. I pressed charges, she loved him too much to press charges.
The young man died at a young age. Not by my hand but the handgun of his own father (in self-defense). I prayed for the young man as I knew him because of his growing up with my children. He always seemed to be angry. I used to pray hard for him, and when he broke my foot I told him that he would come up against someone, someday that would take him out of his misery, and so... the unthinkable happens more times than we are even aware of.
I am glad to hear that you removed yourself from such a volatile situation, no matter how many years you were married. Abuse of any kind is unacceptable! No man, woman, or child should simply take it. The victim is always looking for a way to understand the abuser's rationale. Oft' times there is no understanding.
