I know that you all love to rhyme but here I am asking you to be ruthless about it
You can enter two poems, but your first must be a new write and the other can be a prewrite
You can find links like the one below all over the internet for ruthless inspiration;
or visit his page
Minimum six lines
Misfortunes Never Come Singly
Making toast at fireside,
Nurse fell in the grate and died;
And, what makes it ten times worse,
All the toast was burned with nurse.
Graham, Harry (as "Col. D. Streamer"). Ruthless Rhymes for Heartless Homes. New York: R. H. Russell 1901
R. Nurse's Mistake
Nurse, who peppered baby's face
(She mistook it for a muffin),
Held her tongue and kept her place,
"Laying low and sayin' nuffin'";
Mother, seeing baby blinded,
Said, "Oh, nurse, how absent-minded!"

this is an interesting idea for a contest
i have never heard of "ruthless" rhyming before
-
The one I particularly like (and I think it comes from the same collection), was a satirical riposte to the patriotic play: "An Englishman's Home" (staged in 1913) about an imagined invasion of England by the "Nearlanders" (and no prizes for guessing who THEY were supposed to be!. The "Ruthless rhyme" - which had the same title as the play - "An Englishman's home", went - if I recall correctly:
i was playing golf the day
That the Germans landed,
All our troops had run away,
All our ships were stranded.
And the thought of England's shame
Nearly put me off my game!
(I do relish that "Nearly"!

By the way, if you change your mind and decide to admit previously written work, please let me know! -
Unfortunately ...
I'm not up to writing just now. Too bad, as I rather like the idea of the contest.
