Tiger, Tiger Burning Bright

Please write me something about tigers. It can be in any style or form. Poetry, story or journal. You can base it on William Blake’s poem about the tiger or something entirely different. I want it to be something honoring the tiger and describing how powerful and beautiful they are.

Tigers are endangered and two species of them have become extinct within the last 50 years. You may write something about saving the tiger from extinction. There are a few threads below about this and on the tiger.

Also, I included a thread about William Blake, the author of the famous Tiger poem that I posted here for you. Give me something that melts my heart and soul! I love and respect tigers. Their magnificence gives me chills! I have the soul of a tiger. Make me swoon…

Tiger

Tiger, tiger burning bright
In the forests of the night
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fires of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire
What the hands dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat
What dread hand, and what dread feet

What the hammer, what the chain
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil, what dread clasp
Dare it’s deadly terror grasp?

When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears
Did he smile his work to see
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

Tiger, tiger burning bright
In the forests of the night
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 10
  • Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 500, Bronze: 250, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:
All of the poetry entries were awesome! It was a difficult contest to judge because there were so many excellent ones and I enjoyed reading all of the writes. A few weren't exactly what I asked for, but I liked how the tiger was used as a metaphor of things such as love and personality. I picked the winners based on them being a tribute to the tiger and/or that the tiger is an endangered animal, and of course how eloquently the poems were written. All of the writes made it to the finalist's list, but how I narrowed them down to the winners was thusly. Thank you with all my my heart for all of your participation in the contest. It is a treasure to me.

hi, thanks for hosting such a great contest for these beautiful animals. I surely hope they are still living in the wild after 50 years.
