cigarettes or birds or if inclined to do so, both

Write a poem.
Please.

Günter Eich Apocrypha

A pretty girl asks
for my autograph,
delighted! Except
it's her cigarette
she wants signed,

then lighted. Think about it.
I do. And am
for a moment
the happiest man
that I have ever known—

I have seen my end
and it is someone else's
body, breath
and lovely
inspiration.

FRANZ WRIGHT

Item

Red tubes for hummingbirds are likewise

diaries

of use—

and the pearl, once taken,

will leaf out

into an oyster; the fish table acquired

like a beautiful stranger.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 9
  • Rewards: Gold: 900, Silver: 200, Bronze: 75
  • Final notes:

Thanks to everyone who participated in this contest. I really enjoyed reading and commenting on every poem.

I went with the three that I liked best which may not be the best three poems -- as who am I to judge such a thing.

Mostly, it's about sharing and I'm grateful people shared.

    All my best,
    Lisa

I luv the examples, but whenever I read quoted poetry it always makes me feel such a clutz and just how far behind them I really am.

Well -- practice practice practice I say! Remember AllPoetry contests are just writing exercises really.

I'm not even sure that would work, it has to be something special inside you, anybody can write but so very few can write really well. I could churn out write after write after write and maybe 1 in 10,000 would come out something like the examples, but I dont really think so.

some people say they would never smoke a bird
when birds are all they've been smoking

I prefer ciggies to birds but that's just my preference. Not writing these days. Don't even have ideas on the notepad I used to keep for future poems. It's empty. Some might think that's a good thing.

    Anyways ... Hi!

the poems are just nice; well, a bit average. Little lame really. Maybe I just don't understand them. Quite possible. But I sure understand those wibbly tits, wobbly tots, and there aint nothing average or nice about those.
