'The Philosopher in Meditation' by Rembrandt
As the sun casts its autumnal glow, it's the perfect time to recognize poetry.
During autumn, the season's colors being shades of beige, yellow, orange, red, amber, brown, black, spice, rust, and golden, poets are in an especially warm, mellow, and inspirational mood; as their hearth-side muses pause to ponder.
This contest has a twist: Metaphorically speaking, what does this image say to you? The ancient sages have a message of meaningful purpose in our lives. What is it?
AP rules apply. More contest awards and points may be added later, depending on the number of entries received. OK, let's have fun, and good luck, everyone!!
I would like to acknowledge and thank the generous donor of 2000 contest points
for 'Fall's Image Prompt' - THANK YOU, DAVID - from the bottom of my heart!!
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on November 8
- Rewards: Gold: 1200, Silver: 800, Bronze: 400, Honorable mention: 5 people
- Final notes:
CONGRATULATIONS, EVERYONE!! This contest’s judging is finally complete!! WOW!!!
THANK YOU so much, David (aka Sleepinglion), for your contribution of 2000 BIG POINTS for the winning entries in this contest. And the WINNERS are:
GOLD: ‘Thirst and Hunger’… This is Something the philosopher within each of us continually ponders upon, Something included with every daily prayer. There is no reason hunger should exist at all, with all the technology and wealth this world possesses. An impossibility, it is the koan of koans. The sound of the soundless sound - one hand clapping. The globe’s bottomless hunger similarly being an unanswerable puzzle. And yet, hunger and poverty continue to ravage the poorest of the poor. Powerful nations make futile attempts to help the helplessly starving populations, but they do not even “come close” to end the suffering of the masses. The sound of one hand clapping. People starving to death. I cannot quite comprehend it. Your heart-felt poem is very worthy of the golden chalice, Desire.
SILVER: ‘Season of Wonder’… There are found “Volumes of distinctive treasure,” in this worthy masterpiece, “Spread like carpets for our mind,” causing every muse to ponder, and is truly a remarkable poem. Thank you for sharing this awesome wonder, Joy.
BRONZE: ‘Gold-Leaf Grief’… Perfectly embodies Rembrandt’s image prompt. Thank you.
HMs: All of these poems are worthy of a shiny trophy in their own right, and are listed in no particular order. I just wish there were more Emerald Cups available to give out. (Does anyone know how we can get this rule changed?) Every poem entered in this contest was incredibly written, exemplifying the prompt beautifully. I’ve never had such a difficult time with the task of judging before now.
Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Thanks to everyone for your inspiring and thought-provoking offerings. Your muse's are ALL very much appreciated and admired.
I’d be honored if you would please check out my future contests. Until then, do keep your mighty quills flowing…
Peace Always,
Cyn

Thank you for holding this contest ... and also for sharing the points and trophies and spreading good will to all! I loved the painting "'The Philosopher in Meditation'" by Rembrandt that you introduced as it was new to me and sent my imagination reeling.
