Challenge yourself. Try Being Deaf.

Be creative... and think outside the square.

I want people to write a poem on what they think its like to be deaf or hearing impaired.

I thought it might be fun to see what people came up with.

Tip: If you really have no idea, get some ear muffs or ear plugs or something else to plug your ears. Then test yourself by listening to music, or the TV or try talking to someone... get someone to do some word tests... with you writing down what you hear, and getting them to check. You might be surprised by how much you miss

    Deaf

well, the ironic thing is. That I am deaf. But i have a cochlear implant which allows me to hear. And talk and act no different from you. I am just a normal person. But the cool thing is, that my cochlear implant can be turned off. So i could choose to hear, or not. And being completely deaf in both ears and not hearing anything. It just sounds like, well you know how when you think and there's like your own buzz of the voice in your head and then it just goes silent. I don't know if that happens to anyone else. But it is just complete silence. You kinda get used to it. in fact i could be sleeping and you would be blasting a air horn into my ear and i still wouldn't hear you. its actually quite funny. i use it to my advantage (what person wouldn't) haha. I am normal, and i was born with profound haring loss. There's nothing else wrong with me. I am just deaf. But i can hear with my cochlear implant. it's actually quite a miracle. my cochlear implant is not waterproof, and its battery powered. So when my batteries die or when i swim i can't hear. you cannot imagine how it feels like to be left out. But I'm proud of it. It's a part of me. in fact if you talked to me you wouldn't even notice it. It's just a lot different... haha.
