Welcome to the October New Member's Contest
This contest is for New Members who joined the Month of October ONLY. The only exception to this is IF you joined September 30 and have NOT entered the September contest then you are eligible to enter this month's contest.
Option 1.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Started in 1985, it's goal is to promote mammography as the best way to detect breast cancer, and to counsel those that have it. Please write a poem about this cause.

Halloween is October 31st. Please write a poem about Halloween.

Happy Birthday John Keats! Poet John Keats was born on October 31st. Please be inspired by any of his poetry and write your own piece. Please include a link to which of his poems inspired you.

Option 4.
International World Teachers Day is October 5th. Although teachers should be praised year round, this one day has been set aside to give them recognition. Write a poem about teaching, or about your favorite teacher.

Option 5.
Please write a picture inspired poem. In this case, I want you to write about a picture you have found on your own that inspires you, not one provided by me. Please make sure you put a link to the picture in your author's notes, and please make sure to credit the artist.

RULES:
1. We strictly want the poems in decent language, meaning, if any content with adult language or swear words, the poem will be disqualified.
This contest is for all ages - so those who are under the age of 18 years and those who prefer to not view adult poetry need to be able to read the entries also.
2. Poems are to be between 10 - 30 lines
3. No foul language.
4. No sTiCkY cApS or chat lingo
5. One entry per person - If you collaborate, the other poet must be a new [October] member also.
6. Entries must not exceed the required amount of lines
7. Please put the option number, you have chosen in your author's notes. This is the section underneath your poem labeled "Any Notes?".
*** Please make sure to check back from time to time after you submit your entry. There may be a notice of corrections or editing that may need to be done. It would be a shame if you are disqualified because you didn't do this.***

Superb selections!
Very inventive! I especially like the last several options that ask the author to contribute academically and/or artfully. So many ideas for this contest. My father was a teacher and so it draws the eye of those who are in that educational cycle.

I joined Sept 30 and didn't even know y'all had these contests I will be back with a poem, but I need to think on my subject. Too many ideas so hard to choose. :-) good idea for a contest, helps get the new members out there.

My poem " Think before you pink" does not have 56 lines. It has exactly 30. I counted.
