Hi all,
I live in Arizona where it usually never rains. This morning there was a great downpour, the power went out... I had forgotten how much I loved the rain.
So please, enter as many times as you'd like, just give me poems about rain. The only thing I ask is that you avoid cliches in your writing, thank you.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on September 21
- Rewards: Gold: 700, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100
- Final notes: Wow, I never imagined when I first made this contest that I would get so many entries. For all those who didn't get trophies I want you to understand that --- a lot of poems means a lot of competition. So there were really good poems (that I would have awarded gold in other contests) that fell just short of trophy range in this contest. Sorry!
The winning poem got gold for its powerful images, specific and concrete details, and strong emotional metaphors. Silver got it for similar reasons --- lasting metaphors that stuck with me even after I had clicked on to other poems. The bronze got it because the poet very wonderfully responded (with more of an impression than a literal narrative) to the content of a picture. I've always appreciated poets who can take on that kind of challenge.
Very close runner-ups were Harmony for the strong image it created in my mind as well as the non-cliched way it used abstract nouns, Minority in Monsoon for the power of the singularity metaphor, Kiss me in the Rain because well I just love relationships and that poem made me want to be in that moment, PLUS I really enjoyed all the poems that contained humor.
What I was more meh about were the poems that fell too close to cliche (and there were a bunch in this contest, eeps). Anyway, I sincerely appreciate all of you taking the time to enter into this contest. I've seen writers (including myself) grow from the experiences I've had at allpoetry and I'm excited we'll all continue to experience that after this contest. -Atrus

Awesome! The only poem I could find to fit this contest was the very first one I wrote on AP. This contest is definitely racking up nostalgia points...

You got your work cut out for you here judging this one

No kidding! I intentionally made a contest that I knew would get a lot of entries but now it means I have to carefully go through each entry and make sure to give all of them a fair chance. I just appreciate everyone's contributions, so competition will be tough but I'll figure out my top three, no worries.
