Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on September 23
  • Rewards: Gold: 750, Silver: 750, Bronze: 150, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:
    Hello all,
First of all, I wanted to thank you for your patience. Last week, my daughter had a severe seizure, and was taken to Tampa General Hospital. Monday, she was release from the hospital. It has taken me this long to play catch-up from all the things I couldn't do, but needed too. I'm not sharing that information with you for sympathy, but as an explaination of how life can get in the way.
Regarding Judging: Everytime, I host a contest someone gets their feelings hurt, because they felt the poem was better. I want to remind you, poetry is about how the reader perceives your work, and the internal emotion it draws from that information. I don't look at who is who, and for those of you who responded, even though you were told not to... were graded on a scale 1 - 10. The grading was assigned prior to me posting my comments. The system doesn't allow me to award as many pieces as I deem worthy of being recognized. The finalist are the ones with the highest scores. I can tell you, the finalist has a score of 9.35 or higher. The honorable mention are 'not' in exact order. However, I want you to know total of:
13 poems held a score 9.0 and over
    10 poems held a score 8.5 - 8.99
    5 poems held a score below 8.5

If you would like to know your ranking I'll be happy to provide that information with you, by message.

I want to congratulate the winners whoever you may be.

As promised the highest scoring freewrite was given Gold, the highest scoring prewrite was given Silver. The bronze went to next highest score after the Gold and Silver was fulfilled.

Terrific jobs to all of you, I do appreciate your entries, it was a pleasure reading your work, and I hope you will enter my contests again.

    So

Is there no prompt? Are you looking for just prewrites or new writes?

    • No prompt. I did offer a prompt the first year, but noticed I was limiting the talents poets have shown. The 2nd year I did not offer a prompt, and I was elated by the different types of poetry presented. Personally, I am looking for something that is innovative yet poetic.

I prefer fresh material, however I have read some incredible piece that should be considered. I will not give a gold position to a pre-write, because there was no effort put into the piece specifically for this contest.

I hope I've answered your questions, and if you have any others I'll be happy to address them. I also hope to discover you've entered.
