Okay, so I've been watching "The Freedom Writers" alot lately and this idea just popped in my head.
The Freedom Writers Synopsis:
"Assigned the thankless task of teaching freshman English at a gang-infested Long Beach, CA high school, a 23-year-old teacher resorts to unconventional means of breaking through to her hardened students in director Richard LaGravenese's adaptation of Erin Gruwell's best-seller The Freedom Writer's Diaries: How a Teacher and 150 Teens Used Writing to Change Themselves and the World Around Them. Her students had been written off, and her chances of succeeding scoffed at, but Erin Gruwell wasn't about to go down without a fight. Long Beach is a place where a new war is waged with each passing day, and when the hardened students who walk those dangerous hallways sense an outsider attempting to understand their plight, their cynical resentment threatens to keep a deadly cycle in motion. Despite the initially hostile reaction she receives in the classroom, Gruwell uses the writings of Anne Frank and Zlata's Diary: A Child's Life in Sarajevo to teach her students not only the basis of the English language, but compassion and tolerance as well. Later, when the time comes to tell their own tales in a project specially designed to explore the daily violence that the majority of students have grown numb to, the barriers that had once stood so strong gradually begin to crumble. When the only chance for survival is to befriend the person who was once your mortal enemy, the world is opened to a whole new realm of possibilities."
I think this movie, anyone can relate to. Everyone goes through disgust and turmoil, towards or gets it from, another person. Everyone battles with opinions, whether its their own subconcious feeling or just other people.
I want this to be, no, not a rounds contest, but a series contest.
Tell me, how did this movie or book, make you feel?
Do you live a life similar to any in the story line?
Just, go with what you want to write. Make it a "Dear Diary" type of thing but you don't have to include the "Dear Diary" part.
Do anything you want with the poem. Dirty.Pretty, Prose, Free-verse, Rhyme, anything you want. Just make it poetry. Make me see what you go through, not just tell me.
Imagery and Metaphors are a must in this.
I'll also be starting a group.
Prewrites are allowed, but only if they fit the topic.
I've given each contestant 14 entries because I'm hoping to see something written everyday(not a requirement) for the two weeks this contest is over.
This book/movie takes place during the school year, and since school has just begun, I think I'll start this series contest starting then, and not ending until the end of school.
I hope this will be a good turn-out.
Get out there and show me what you have to live through.
Josh

WOW
I love this movie. I'm not one for showing emotion at movies, but when I saw this in the theaters, I cried about 3 times!! This movie has touched so many lives, and will continue to touch many more. Hilary should've won a freaking Oscar!!!

Enter, Enter, Enter!
I cried the first time I watched the movie. It has touched me. In fact, that movie and Rachel Scott(One of the students that died in the columbine shootings) have inspired me and have molded me into me. That's so great.
Hope to see something from you.

my username is inspired completely by that movie, i love that movie. seen it many times, I don't know if I'll enter though, I probably don't have anything interesting to write about. can you write fictional based off of lives of people you know?
-
-
Everyone has a story to tell.
I suppose you could write something fictional, as long as it comes across as real. Yeah, I could accept that.
I hope to see a brilliant piece from you.
