what we want you guys to do is type a poem (preferably no more than 30 or 40 lines) in whatever style you're comfortable with. then, we want you to handwrite the poem, take a picture of it, and display it in your entry. you can either upload it to photobucket or a different image server and post the link in your author's notes, or (if you're a silver/gold member), you can upload the picture directly into your poem.
we're going to judge the contest based both on your handwriting and your poem. please don't try to make your handwriting look good. we want to see your natural writing, because that will best reflect who you are.
the gold trophy-winner will receive a handwritten poem back written by me and the silver winner will receive one from christian.

Wonderful idea dear. I always hand write all mine first. Good luck with this.
-
grea idea! i haven't hand written a poem in so long; i'll most likely enter. =)

This IS a great idea, a unique concept for a contest. I worked in a college library for 12 years and was able to get a microfiche copy of a handwritten manuscript by Emily Dickinson from Boston University through Interlibrary Loans. The covers were tied together with ribbons and she had painted Indian Pipe flowers on the cover. A later issue of different poems reproduced the same image of the flowers on the cover. I then copied my favorite poems in her handwriting and mounted typed copies next to them and hung them with her picture over my desk for inspiration. I wrote several columns with various pictures of Emily's belongings, including her famous white dress and the cherry dresser she kept her poems in, to be discovered after her death.
Here's the link to a column I did with a copy of Edna St. Vincent Millay's handwriting; her poem "Renascence" is on it.

My late sweetheart's father was (among other duties) a handwriting expert for the police department. I once wrote an acrostic for him, then realized he was analyzing my writing.
I agree, there is a lot to be learned about a person from their handwriting.
Good luck to all who enter.

Is any topic acceptable or does it haveto relate to emotion ?
-
i love this idea!

aanika, you always come up with the best contests. (: -

-
i'm excited that you're doing this.
i just hope i can take a decent picture.
can it be scanned? -
i'll be back for this.
i love this idea, and i didn't want to copycat again, soooo...now i have the permission to.
-
That idea is great, it must make it so personal, i don't handwrite so i can't really enter this, though i wish i could
-
everything i write is handwritten before it is typed; it's then kept and copyrighted. What is one to do if AP ever dies? everything would be lost. traditional ways are always the best

-
Is this supposed to be about a certain thing or is it any poem we come up with?
-
wow this is an awesome idea for a contest, never seen anything like it so thanks for hosting
ill see if i can come up with something!
-
Dx my camera doesnt work anymore.

Would it be ok if I wrote prose and not a poem?
-
