Now with the war in Iraq winding down and the war in Afghanistan never really being a front page news subject ,and with all of the news coverage about the poor economy, President Obama's health-care legislation, and other things pressing in out lives. People are seaming to forget that we do still have Hundreds of thousands of troops spread all over the world, Some in war zones some in troubled spots and some just acting in a humanitarian role. The thing is they have slipped from everyone's mind.
What I want is poems about soldiers. I want to read about sacrifices made, issues they have to deal with , or about their life and death. What I don't want is political pieces, I don't care if you think the wars are right or wrong or if you think our military should be acting as a sort of world police. Leave that for people who like the debate and argue over it. I probably wont dq your poem for it but I grantee that it will not win anything.
I promise that I will comment on all poems and award them as I see fit. I gave the Army 8 years of my life, 3 years on active duty and another 5 in the reserves. I want poems that accurately portray a soldiers life, soldiers families lives, or issues the soldiers dealt with. That is what I will be judging on. The link for my military poems is below but please so not imitate my poems, I want to see the poets creativity. Best luck and let me see your writes. And before I forget the best chance of winning goes to the poet who can best describe combat in their poems. Ive seen the real thing not the holywood crap so please spare me the heroics and show me realism.
List of my military themed poems.
Also the photo credit. It is the American servicemembers cemetary in England for the American soldier who dies in WW2.

but it has brought tears to many eyes.... If you want the link, let me know.

I'm going to stalk your awesome contest and read the entries, hope that's okay

I just wanted to let you know that I think that this is an awesome concept for a contest! Make people stop and think about what our brave men and women are doing for us! Not sure if I can put something together in time for this but I plan on attempting to! Just in case I don't make it in time I just wanted to commend you on your choice of topics!

Great contest dear! My daughter is in the Army National Guard and is getting married in November. Then both she and her husband will ship out to Afganistan in January.

Awesome
This is a great contest however, I can't understand how you have picked finalists and only viewed 25% of the entries. You seem to be strong in your conviction yet you omit 75% of the opinions. Just curious about your beliefs. -
-
I adjust the awards and such as I come across poems worthy of them. The finalist havnt been picked yet just the ones I think worthy of the awards I am still in the process of judgeing the contest.
