The Ultimate La-La Challenge "Auditions"

Firstly...welcome!

Secondly...you are required to read this before you go any further!

http://allpoetry.com/column/show/2354629

Thirdly...you are required to enter a pre-write, preferrably form poetry, that showcases your talent.  OR

enter a FRESH WRITE in any FORM (rhyming of course).

In your AN you are required to fill-out the following application form (copy/paste it in & fill it in):

Name:

Age:

Sex:

Favourite genre:

Favourite form:

Reasons I wish to succeed in this challenge:

Judges will read your entries, yet will comment at their own discretion...decisions regarding who goes through and who doesn't, will be done in private discussion and disclosed only when this contest is judged.

Before you enter, please know that once you've entered, I will expect you to be prepared to commit yourself to a 15-round challenge.  I don't appreciate time wasters...not only do they frustrate me, but their actions effect everyone involved in the challenge - it simply isn't fair, so don't enter if you have no intention of seeing this through.

Ok, if there's anything I havent covered, just ask...

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on August 13
  • Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 250, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:
All 26 entrants will be progressing to Round 1.

This is the order you qualified in - I devised a scoring system to calculate the final line-up; yet for this round only, I shall not be disclosing judges' scores - you all qualified, so i see no point in justifying the judgement.

For following rounds, ALL scores will be posted in the closing notes of each contest.

Congratulations to the top 4 entries, it was a close race.

ALL contestants are required to join the following group:
    http://allpoetry.com/group/show/Ultimate+La-La+Challenge

Round 1 will be posted later & details will appear on the group board, so I don't have to IM you all individually (i shan't be babysitting anyone regards to when rounds appear - join the group and you can look for yourselves).

Well done all & thank you judges for being prompt!

lol... Amera is your judge...mainly form poems.. yep..you don't want to see my entries..

        • Amera is my co-judge...my poetic equal where forms are concerned. We're not seeking perfection, nor expecting anyone to pen to the standards that we set for ourselves...we're simply asking you to be yourself & pen to the best of your own abilities. This whole challenge is about poetic growth & that includes confidence...i think you should consider entering, afterall, you have nothing to lose

lol..I like how you said "poetic growth" ok..I'll try my best (going back to re-read the rules...)

  • heck yes

  • i'd love to enter... except that my gold ran out before i found this and i can't edit my author-notes without losing all my rt-formatting. as soon as i get paid and i get my gold back, i'll enter, i promise.

  • Ill get back to this later, I am really busy at this direct moment

  • I don't write in form, otherwise I'd LOVE to do this.

  • I second what Immortal Obscurity said sadly.

  • With judges such as these, this rivals a Master's Class in Form Poetry. Sign me up!!!

  • I'm going to have to write something new for this, because I have two Palindromes, but I honestly don't like either of them. And I really need to improve my rhyming and form technique, so you should have something within the next few days.

      You, improve???
Oh, Christ Jesus. Thoughts like that affect my chances enough to drive me toward the liquor cabinet.

      • haha there's always room for improvement.
and i def. need to up my game for form.

          I know the feeling.
I've been writing so many sonnets lately, and very little of any other form. Also, my muse is under the impression that it's on vacation.

    • ok...i'll hold you to it!

      & no "uh oh"...i'm deaf!

      • Haha. Laurraaaa
        there are so many forms.
        Which one is your favorite
or which one do you think would be good for me?
I'm down with anything except villanelle or sestina.
-hopes the latter doesn't bite me in the ass later-

        • gimme either a double ottava rima or a terza rima please ( hit me later! )

        • & there'll be no sestinas full stop...i hate that bloody form!

          • sestina is amazing!

i've written them before and apart from the final tercet, believe them to be nothing more than a pain in the ass. Even the reading of them pains me...and so, there'll be no sestinas at all in my challenge.

so if i was to change my mind and enter, you'd leave me out if i used a sestina

you are more than encouraged to change your mind...as is your perogative

you may submit a sestina into this audition round & it will be treated as fairly as any other entry. i just won't be setting "sestina" as any form of necessity throughout the duration of this challenge.

                  does that mean you'll enter?

Probably not .. 15 rounds is just too much for me at the moment and I wouldn't want to bail out half way through.

                    Sorry

Laura swore to me the sestina wouldn't come up. That was my one condition on entering

  • I've never really written rhyme is a special form before...hmm...
this is a tough one lOl
    no free verse right

    • the prewrites just say "preferably rhyme"

I entered. They better love me.

Give me rhyme/form if it's a fresh write or anything at all that showcases your talent if you're intending to enter a pre-write. Seeing as though this is pre-dominantly a form challenge, you'll easily guess what i'd prefer for you to submit

      oh...& don't forget this ----->

      • Well, this is just too much for me haha.
I think I am over thinking this lol.
I know nothing really about Poetry, I just write and write
Is there anything of mine that you have seen in a form...
like I would do poetry that has

        1 line
        then 2nd would rhyme
        the 3rd line
and 4th rhyme with 2nd line lol

      • But if you are going to be getting contestants that are strong in form/rhyme, I'd sure hope you'd have non-form/rhyme challenges also.

Otherwise, you aren't really challenging the majority.

I have already pre-planned the whole challenge. Challenges will commence as i see fit, regardless of others' opinions. Like i already stated - i've been setting these challenges in and around AP for years; i know exactly what i'm doing.

if i get the minimum of 25 poets, this challenge will likely run into November at the latest. I'm hoping to limit each round to 1 week only...but there's always late entries to accommodate for and unforeseeable life events...if i get less than my required 25 poets, then obviously the challenge will be shorter
