Several years ago, I wrote a series of poems based on Biblical accounts of people who met and interacted with Jesus, during His time here on earth. I would like to give you an opportunity to do the same.
Your mission, if accepted, is to write a FIRST PERSON rhyming poem, about someone who met Jesus, giving a sense of their feelings and reactions to their encounter with the Son of God.
While there will be some embellishment of thoughts and feelings involved in the experience--I must ask that you stay true to the actual facts of the encounter.
I am looking for poems that relate the incident in such a way, that you feel moved by the telling of the matter, as getting personally involved, allowing the incident to come to life!
In Authors Notes please include the Gospel passage and reference(Book, chapter and verses) upon which your first person poetic narrative is based.
All the normal rules apply. This is a contest for believers. Poems must honor and respect the person of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, as revealed in the Gospels or will be disqualified and deleted without further comment or explanation.
Are you up to the challenge???
I hope you are-- I look forward to reading your most excellent efforts!

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on August 4, 2009
- Rewards: Gold: 600, Silver: 300, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 5 people
- Final notes: I am grateful for all who participated in this contest. Whether or not your poem won a trophy or honorable mention or not--(there just is never enough to go around), you are participated in a worthy effort--ie. in acknowledging ad giving praise to Jesus Christ the Son of God.
I had a difficult choice to make-- many great entries, many of good substance but not quite what the challenge asked for, [such as rhyming/scripture reference, first person accounts based on historical Bible accounts, etc]. So in the end I did bend some of the requirements, and I did add a few more honorable mentions. I think in using your God given abilities to honor the Lord, then you are ALL WINNERS! I encourage you all to to it more and often.
" To Him be the glory and praise forever and ever. AMEN"

rhyming poem...only for believers...
Jesus didn't come here for the believers, I think...yes I think that's in the bible.
Of course, religion is for those who're afraid to go to hell, and spirituality is for those who've already lived it.
My Jesus would probably rail at such inclusiveness, but I guess that's what makes My Jesus so awesome.
Take care, I hope you find what you're looking for.

Thank you for the honorable mention. I made improvements to this poem just now, so it would read more smoothly. It's in iambic meter, with the first and third lines longer than the second and fourth. You might find you like it better now. I know I do.
