Honor our Soldiers

I come from a family where soldiers are highly appreciated.
I come from a country where soldiers are highly appreciated.

For those of us not willing to take on what they do, I feel that they DESERVE to be respected & appreciated by us. <--- my opinion, voice yours if you wish.

I lost my adopted brother to the war [RIP Zac]
My brother-in-law is a vet.

For this, I am honestly accepting ANYTHING pertaining to the military, the war, as long as it does not put down the military or soldiers, or encourage war.
No line limit, no form specifications, nothing.

Go for it.

EDIT;
Oh man, I'm writing a letter to a soldier as we speak, my friends =D

Thank you for holding this contest. I had also noticed what you mentioned and I am very glad to see someone doing something about it. If I was a soldier and saw the poems about "glorified assassins", I think I might lose the will to fight on. I hope that all of the soldiers serving our nation know that we support them and that we won't stop until they all come home.

  • i love my brother.
    <3

    i wish he had joined for the right reasons so i could consider him a hero;

i guess i still kind of do though.

  • Very impressed. 16 years old and have a voice thats louder then life itself. WONDEFUL..I have a few things to say to other contest holder. I shall return. Stay a voice young lady and DONT ever lose it.

I am honored to have crossed such a wise gals path. You

  • I love this contest. I write to over a dozen soldiers. They love letters, and care packages. Especially from children. If you want to write to soldiers, go to www.anysoldier.com.

      Thanks for the link!
I'm actually checking it out right now.
I think I just might send at least a letter to a few here & there, ya know?

  • "go enter this hellhole contest: Soldiers are NOT Heroes".

That's kind of rude, and well... just rude. It's fine you have your opinion, but you don't need to belittle other contests.

did you see that contest? you might think differently.

      • I did see the contest. In fact, I saw it before this one. Though the other contest is quite.. sick, in it's own way. That reference in this contest's information is just rude and screams "In your face. I'm better than this person."

Honestly, I was giving the people who did want to write about their feelings toward "glorified assassins" a place to go. I told them I didn't want them here, so I simply gave them somewhere else TO go.

Well, you already have 3 times as many entries as the other contest, so you got him on that one for sure... I have several pre-writes that would fit in here nicely, if I could only remember what they were called!!! I forget my poems 5 minutes after I write them.

  • how is it that, he posted his contest and it was his opinion and some people greed with him and all he got was arguments.
when you post your opinion and suddenly you're like god.
    everyone loves it.

    i just don't see how that's fair.

Not everyone loves it; the people who don't were kind enough to reply in a message, like I & every other person who argued their point should have done for that contest.

I realize what I did was shitty.
I was angry. I've already gone through & deleted my comments from it.
      It wasn't fair. I know.
      Sorry.

    • I agree, which makes this contest really biased. Everyone here is going to bash the slightest "non-pro-this contest".

  • I think the soldiers deserve to be honored for fighting for our country, I disagree with the war but I fully support the troops who are dying and fighting possibly for causes they don't even believe in because that's how it works in the army.
People diss them but its not like they choose- they choose t enlist but no one knows what that could mean , and its wrong to call them 'glorified assasain'

The other contest, which has been removed it seems, struck an interesting nerve. In Western society, especialy America, Soldiers have been elevated to the status of heroes just for doing their duty. As if joining the military and serving in a foreighn war is somehow pure and selfless, more derserving than any other endeavour.

My father was an RAF sergeant, I grew up in a time when the IRA where murdering british soldiers and civilians, an age where terrorism was commonplace for the British. later I joined NAAFI and for 10 years worked on British military bases.

To me, a soldier is worthy of respect, but this in itself does not make him a hero. In my country we distinguish heroes, real heroes who go above and beyond their duty. One such Hero was awarded the Victoria Cross for saving his comrades, the highest award for valour in the British military.

I got sidetracked over there by some youngster and the all too commom refrain of "may country saved your country so there!".

Posted an old poem of mine for this contest, one which I think gets across what it means to be a soldier. I've seen friends go to war and strangers come back, seen the look int heir eye after they have witnessed horror on a foreighn field. They have my utmost respect, yet we have a duty as the body politic NOT to glorify these men, NOT to make them heroes and in so doing make war itself an heroic and positive act.

We owe it to these men, these soldiers, to do our utmost so that they are not needed to go to war. the greates service we can do to our armed forces is to ensure that when they are called upon to give their blood, it is done for the right reasons, for a just cause and not to further the aims of politicians or the bloodlust of a nation hurt and angry.

I entered my 'positive' war poems in this, but - I would advise against going through my poetry to read others, as there was a time in my life when I hated/feared many soldiers, of a particular catagory ... Now, that time has passed, or at least dulled, and so I do have some writes that you were looking for

Sorry to hear about your adopted brother.

  • daviscth

Please tell your Daughter I said thank you. Because of her and thousands of young Americans serving in our Military, we here at home can enjoy freedom. May Freedom forever ring.
