there's gonna be a knife fight in china town.

Orignally this was for my favorites and the people who have me on their's but I wasn't getting enough pieces so it's OPEN TO EVERYBODY.

Requirements:
-left align.
-free verse and prose only.
-option in AN.
-dazzle me, honey.

Prompts:

-Write a poem using at least nine of these words:
gutter
black-out
fog machine
rabbit
cobweb
scissors
motel
chain-link fence
amatory
bone marrow
summit
dome
snarled
ivy
cardinal
bruised
ferris-wheel
capsized
lantern
serpentine
power-cat
libertine
windowsill
jam jar

-Be inspired by a quote. DO NOT USE ANY PART OF THE QUOTE IN YOUR PIECE.

"Every time I look at you I get a fierce desire to be lonesome." -Oscar Levant

"She was the still point of the turning world, man." -The Virgin Suicides

"What lingered after them was not life, which always overcomes natural death, but the most trivial list of mundane facts: a clock ticking on a wall, a room dim at noon, and the outrageousness of a human being thinking only of herself." -The Virgin Suicides

"... calling them out of those rooms where they went to be alone for all time, alone in suicide, which is deeper than death, and where we will never find the pieces to put them back together." -The Virgin Suicides

"Everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt." -Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

"The world is changed because you are made of ivory and gold. The curves of your lips rewrite history." -The Potrait of Dorian Gray

"I don't know what to do anymore. Except maybe die." -Rebel Without a Cause

"I would like to write about nicer things or fiction but we shouldn't avoid reality should we? The things I have just written are the truth. They are very hard to write about. I am lonely. Forgive me. I am lonely." -James Dean

"Paranoia is just a kind of awareness, and awareness is just a form of love." -Charles Manson

"The silence depressed me. It wasn't the silence of silence. It was my own silence." -The Bell Jar

"To the person in the bell jar, blank and stopped as a dead baby, the world itself is the bad dream." -The Bell Jar

"I took a deep breath and listened to the old bray of my heart: I am, I am, I am." -The Bell Jar

"The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over." -Hunter S. Thompson

-Write a letter, and no I'm not going to be super lame and ask you to write me a letter. Instead, write a letter to yourself at three different ages. It doesn't matter what ages just as long as they are significant enough to be involved in this piece.

-Recently, I was given this prompt for new born's contest: write about an object or landmark that is extremely important to you. talk about the object like it's a person. bury me in metaphor. And I think I should share it :]]]

-Ever smell something that stirs a memory? I'd prefer interesting combinations such as: the smell of pine needles reminds you of pissing in the woods at that one bon-fire. I don't know, something strange. Nothing like, the smell of Blacks remind me of him and how we were in love but he couldn't understand my pain and therefore broke my heart even though we're still together. Blah.

-Names. I want the stories behind them in free-verse/prose form. Maybe write about it in third person, give it some texture. And I don't mean you're real name silly, I mean your username.

If I think of more prompts, I'll post them. I'll add HMs at the end of this contest, when I'm going to judge everything. By the way, I may or may not comment so don't expect anything.

rattle these bones.

Hmmm... feeling saucy I see. I'll see what I can do; by the way - Depp as Dillinger.

    • I know! he was incredible! and I loved the ending with the Clark Gable film. it was just stunning. even though the movie was a tad bit inaccurate, it didn't matter because the film was that amazing. I hope Johnny gets some oscar buzz. he deserves one after all of these years of stellar work.

  • great prompts
