"rapture" is the contest prompt.
*
No poems about religion—I respect your faith (or lack thereof, if that be the case), but this isn’t what this contest is about;
*
however, you may use religious metaphors within your poem
*
I am looking for entries that are tight and creative, metaphoric and original, inspired by the contest prompt—in 60 words or less
*
Please do not:
- use the word “rapture” in your poem
- write about any sort of “arrival” (do I need to spell it out)
*
I prefer:
- left alignment
- simple backgrounds, free of any graphics
- free verse
*
if you get it, write it
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on August 5
- Rewards: Gold: 700, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 1 people
- Final notes: Thank you for your patience during this contest—I have to admit up front that I am probably the worst person to judge a contest on time in the entire history of AP...please accept my apologies for the wait.
Having said that, I have been in a bit of a funk as far as my own writing and creativity goes, and this contest certainly has offered inspiration to lead in me in the right direction. Every entry offered something special and something to appreciate, but the ones I chose in the top four spots here were ones that touched me for their beauty and for the ability to take me somewhere else—and for their unique takes on the contest prompt.
Thank you all so much for some very lovely pieces to read

And you get in your car and you drive real far
And you drive all night and then you see a light
And it comes right down and lands on the ground
And out comes a man from Mars
And you try to run but he's got a gun
And he shoots you dead and he eats your head
And then you're in the man from Mars
You go out at night, eatin' cars
You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too
Mercuries and Subarus -
