Sheltered
You find yourself within a cozy egg,
too young to know the feeling of secure.
You push upon the shell with wing and leg,
for in your mind you think you’re so mature.
You hear a crack and feel that you are free
and poke your head outside the tiny shell.
The pieces fall away expectantly
and in a nest you settle very well.
In time the nest will also seem too small,
you want to spread your wings and touch the sky.
You look about and fear that you might fall,
but instinct tells your heart that you can fly.
So now you find in your maturity,
that you must make your own security.
