Inspire Me

Happy Birthday To Me...

All I want for my birthday this year is to be inspired by deep, philosophical poetry written by my fellow AllPoetry members.

Basically, I want to read things that make me think and feel something so strongly that I feel I need to write. That means that my personal preferences will play a bigger role in this contest than usual, so be aware of what I like and don't like.

Dislikes:

swearing, violence, pornographic erotica, distractions, the color gray (the only one I dislike), Dadaism, Sundays and beets...

Peeves (not always irritating but usually are):

Dialogue in poetry

Relationship poetry that plays the "blame game". I expect it to be thoughtful and introspective and to concentrate on individual emotions and inner depth rather than vindication and extroverted aggressions

Likes:

Poetry and prose that is happy, sad, dark, hopeful, depressing... Nature, Family bonds, Community Pride, flowers, country lanscapes, wilderness, silence, introspection, philosophy etc...

Anyway... that's something you can go on...

Possible prompts, if you think you need them:

1. If emotions (anger, sadness, happiness, fear etc...)
had matter and could be sensed externally, what would it feel like?

2. Quote: "keep on doing it until you die or it dies in you"
-Buckowski

3. Title: Of Ivory and Horn

4. Word Bank: (use all)

balance
space
skin
peel
burning
rind
bone
molting
sorrow
scales

5. Phrase:

I possess the next beat in the rhythm of your heart...

RULES:

1. Don't be vulgar
2. No sticky caps
3. Label appropriately
4. two entries per person
5. I reserve the right to remove poetry that I find vulgar and/or offensive to me without comment.
6. I critique, don't enter something you think is flawless unless you can take my opinions for what they are... opinions!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 24
  • Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100
  • Final notes:
There were a lot of great pieces submitted. Though I have read every entry I have not yet been able to comment on all. I didn't expect to get so many entries so fast!

    Thanks to everyone that participated.

Beets...the red, root vegetable that looks like raw liver to me when boiled. Some people like them, I find them disgusting.

  • Happy Birthday!
