Dead Mail

Hello

I like to do 'different' contests, so when this idea came to me, I just had to do it!

Here's the premise:

The United States Postal Service started a dead letter office in 1825 to deal with undeliverable mail. In 2006 approximately 90 million undeliverable-as-addressed (UAA) items ended up in this office; where the rightful owners cannot be identified.

Okay, this is what I want.

Write as the letter, document, notification, or whatever kind of mail that was sent, but never received. 'You' are laying in a pile with other pieces of undeliverable mail. Think of something you may have received, (good or bad) and imagine if you hadn't.. . .Don't be the addressee, be the mail. What is the message or gift inside? What does the letter say? I hope this makes sense!

If this goes well, I hope to do a Part 2 of this contest. You may be able to guess what that one might be.

You may rhyme if you are very good at it, or just write as it might have been written at the time. Give it a lot of thought!

Please comment on this page if you are interested and plan on entering. IF you reserve, PLEASE complete BEFORE the contest ends. Please let me know if you have questions.

Use common sense.

AP rules appy.

Have fun!

hahaha, this is what happened to my novel when I sent it to Tinuelena. I got the envelope it had been sent in back from the Dead Letter office; the book was gone, and it had never arrived anywhere - perhaps because I only used her name "Elizabeth"? It was a quandry and my last copy of that thing. So where it went, no one knows.

    • Oh no! That is terrible! Bet ya don't send out the last copy now!

    • OH NO! That is terrible, ea!
I am impressed that you can laugh about it Did you have it saved anywhere???

  • This is a wonderful concept!
My muse is about as lost as that letter but I will try to give it a try
