Hello Haiku poets. Welcome to my first contest.
The term Serial Haiku, for the purposes of this contest, means that the poet will create at least four or more original Haiku poems which will all be part of a single larger poem. These poems within a poem will all be linked together by a common concept, theme, idea, image or anything that ties them all together.
I read Haiku poetry, I read about Haiku poetry and I write Haiku poems, but I do not consider myself an expert on the subject, however I think I know enough to be dangerous. If you are not familiar with the Haiku form, I would suggest you research the subject before entering this contest, maybe this website will give you some insight -

Here's a link to Haiku poems by three of the great Japanese Haiku poets - Basho, Buson and Issa - http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Island/5022/basho.html
Here are a couple of examples of what I am looking for in this contest. The first example is a single Serial Haiku poem comprised of twelve individual Haiku poems by a non-AP poet named C.E. Laine the second one is a single Serial Haiku poem comprised of five individual Haiku poems by AP poet lilac moon. Both are what I would consider excellent Serial Haiku poems.

Twelve months of haiku
January
Two months, you’ve been gone.
I can’t put away your clothes--
it is too cold now.
February
I sleep like a cat--
I have not washed my hair or
done the laundry yet.
March
I am a sparrow--
your reflection in windows,
banging into glass.
April
Green things poke through soil--
a blanket to warm your grave.
I am cold- so cold.
May
The birds annoy me.
They sing as if you were here.
I close the windows.
June
Your blanket is thick--
mine is pulled over my head,
despite the noon heat.
July
You explode in stars--
bits of paper with your name
blaze their way to ground.
August
The grass you watered
fades now beneath a hot star;
tear-stained; brown like sand.
September
I found you beneath
raked leaves and a dry-eyed sky.
The colors are gone.
October
You were sick, this time
last year-- begging for an end.
You knew I’d listen.
November
Your grave is flat now.
There is green moss on your stone.
Your head rests gently.
December
I folded your shirt--
your scent clings to the walls here.
I can’t put it down.
The Corner of Your Eye
by Lilac Moon
Just beyond seeing,
discordant color flashes;
unnatural here.
Just beyond hearing,
a sound that is not the wind,
but not a whisper…
Just beyond sensing,
an elusive aroma
drifts here, then is gone.
Just beyond feeling,
the nape of your neck is touched
and you turn to look!
Just beyond knowing,
your heart beats, syncopated;
there is something here.
A quick note; the term "Serial Haiku" does NOT (necessarily) refer to Serial Killers who write Haiku poems and it does NOT (necessarily) refer to Haiku poems about Serial Killers, however, Serial Killers are welcome to submit (but please don't kill me if you don't win!) and poems about Serial Killers are also welcomed :-)
I encourage you to take your time on writing a Serial Haiku, this contest lasts for two weeks.
Thanks, good luck and have fun!
The contest will be judged within one day after the contest is closed.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on June 13
- Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 999, Bronze: 998, Honorable mention: 5 people
- Final notes: I had a difficult time judging this, my first, contest because there were more than three poems that were fantastic and exceeded my expectations. I had to make some decisions and they were subjective and I just went with my gut feeling. I did not really put more emphasis on the haiku aspect than I did on the content of the poems in making my decisions. I just want to thank everyone for taking the time to enter this contest and for submitting such great work.
Thanks, George
