owlish -

This kid, Owlish, absolutely amazes me. Check out her work if you don't believe me. Eleven years old and she writes way beyond her years. Dare I say that I believe she's better then myself and numerous other writers I have come across on AP?

This contest is to honor her words. At such a young age, she's able to already grasp the reader when most kids her age don't even know what a poem is. She will be blowing away teachers in her eighth grade English class before we know it!

I am asking you, for this contest, to either:

Perhaps chose a piece of hers and use it as a prompt/inspiration for your own poem. While penning it, please notice that she is young, so keep it at maximum PG-rated, and that though she is just a tweener, she writes in a very mature voice. I am asking you to please emulate this stylistic voice as best as possible. This means: no teenage rhyming, cliché nonsense. Imagery, diction, dedication to the poetic structure, that's what she and the rest of us strive for. That's what will will win you the gold.

or:

Write a poem dedicated to her, but in a poetic voice emulating the genre she has chosen to write in. This is also the poetic voice I write from, so as the judge, this is something I am looking for.

Rules:

- Keep it under 20 lines, please.
- Plain backgrounds/legible text. Left aligned if you will.
- Avoid erotica,
religion, rhyme, emo, political agenda, or tYPing LikE tHIs.
- If you reserve, please come back and finish it by the close of the contest.

This is not anonymous, so I know who you are.

gold, silver, & bronze places only.
*
Closes at my discretion. I reserve the right to remove a piece as I see fit without explanation*

Have fun and good luck! Impress me with some incredible writes!

Oh Christine, you're right. She was in my contest earlier this week, and she amazed me too. I will give it a think or three. I can only try, but talent like that is not learned. I am going to keep a close eye on this one too.

I wish you the best, and am bookmarking.
    Love,
    jin

    • I think you can handle it. You are definitely up to that caliber. No, it's mean to keep out the not serious writers, like little teenagers that write diary entry stuff with horrible rhyme and clichéd nonsense. You are well beyond that, I hope. LOl.

A contest about me! Wow, thanks so much. Even I don't think I'm that good. And I am definitely not better than you.
But I'm really honored for this. It keeps making me smile. Thank you! :]

  • After you made this I checked her page out, and I couldn't stop reading and commenting on her poems. Wow-o, I have this bookmarked even though I doubt I could do it justice.

  • Do you think you can extend this contest for another week? I did not see it until now, But I am dead tired at the moment, and cannot write. But Tomorrow night, and friday, I will be able to come up with something! Please?

    • You can also reserve and take your time writing. I take like a month to judge my contests anyways lol.

      • Oh my.... Wow.... just... wow...Now I understand why you have so few entries! I have never read anything like her! She is simply amazing! I could never come close to her writing ability!!! She is stunning!

I will try... But, I could never do her any justice!

  • Wow, she must be a genius... but I can't imagine what kind of life she has led so far to be able to write like that, childhood innocence lost so soon... hopefully she doesn't burn out, I''ll read more tomorrow and try to enter this.
