Music inspired poetry. All welcome...HOWEVER!!!

...the first contest I made related to music failed badly...why? Because all the music options were based on bands that no one had ever EVER heard of...so this time...you can pick anything...write me a poem (or if you have a prewrite that's fine) based on or inspired by a song...

...I will then listen to the song while reading your poetry (I have my ways of finding the song so no need to give me a link unless you have a taste like mine that is so obscure I could never find the band)...I will rate the poetry on how well I think it relates (or...contrasts?) with the song and of course based on the poem itself...

Hints:

1. Try and challenge yourself. Pick something too simple that everyone else will pick and I will not really see you doing anything different.

2. If you are in the need for a challenge I have picked some bands I would like to hear songs interpreted for. You do NOT have to do anything with my suggestions...but my avant garde tastes would be very satisfied if you did:

* Kayo dot (everything they make to me is pure gold...seriously Toby Driver...I love you!!)

* Merzbow (merely due to the fact even I don't get what the hell Akita is doing...but I like the sound)

* Jesu (very atmospheric and eerie shoegazing...yet again Justin Broadrick...I vould like your babies)

* Unexpect (no reason I just happen to be listening to them right now...so they were just lucky...like a gypsy tent filled with helium and these other people that aren't really gypsies because they don't exist...)

* Buckethead (because instrumental stuff is fun...and buckethead would make a brilliant father...yes Brian...I want your babies...no one should be able to play guitar that well)

* Genesis (OLD GENESIS...not new because Phil Collins isn't fun...but don't let that put you off though you may do that if you wish...like I said before...do anything...)

* Sopor Aeternus (if you actually know who this band is I should probably marry you now...I just thought I'd pick something unknown and obscure to look cool...I probably should have picked flying luttenbachers...oh well)

3. If you pick a song that will make me cringe...note I have to listen to that song when I read your poem...and I'm sure you're all great people...but I'm sorry...I do NOT like crazy frog...if I now get 100 entries of crazy frog I might as well explode right now and deem the Koala the winner...

4. Please don't kill yourself or you won't be able to get your prize...

5. I have a some kind of deranged sense of humour so if you're going to be ironic and add loads of songs you know I'll hate then feel free...I'll let you enter up to three times...

6. Remember (almost forgot) you MUST tell me what song you used or I will have to disqualify you...and I have never done that...ever...in my life...don't make it so you become the first...or I shall label you "my first"...and you will be scarred for life...

One more thing:

I have A Level exams coming up and if it's a choice between revising and doing this competition I'm going to pick the latter...so don't expect a 100% instant judgement as soon as it's closed...or I will kill you with a pelican brief case...

If you enter then good luck...I will comment on everyone's and give it my full commitment...as long as I'm not revising...

P.S.

I'm aware of the fact that the above may make you deem me as childish and phillistiney (not a word)...if this is the case then yesh you have judged me on prejudices and I salute you...

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 8
  • Rewards: Gold: 600, Silver: 400, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 3 people
  • Final notes:
...I'm sorry how slow judgement was for this contest...I had a truckload of work to do...

...all in all this contest was very varied which is a very good thing...and was also incredibly hard to judge...

...I feel that the people chosen do deserve the awards...if people have concerns with my lack of judgement I'm happy to discuss it with you and I apologise if I have offended you...

...yay verily...now I can stop worrying about a contest deadline for a little while...and if I've put you off my contests...alas...more points for me...

    Oliver

Edit: The winner wishes to remove the poem from the winners section...there is a link for the poem below in the comments section...

"4. Please don't kill yourself or you won't be able to get your prize..."
"...or I will kill you with a pelican brief case..."
I adore your sense of humor already.

    • ...thankoos...I've been told my sense of humour is like a bag of leather peanuts...yeah I know I didn't get it either...so I just looked at them with wide piggy eyes...

  • "I have A Level exams coming up and if it's a choice between revising and doing this competition I'm going to pick the latter..."

You mean the former, I hope?

Lol, a-levels are a bitch. That's why my contests are going no where at the moment.

    • ...the former...of course...that's what I meant...haha...haven't revised that term so I forgot it...

...yes...it's going to kill me...two psychology exams, two philosophy exams, one music aural paper, and two big juicy English Language essays...and of course General Studies...which no one revises for (I got a "U" in the paper in January but the most clever people failed that)...

...so yesh...I'm swamped...but I will survive...this contest is the last true bit of procrastination I have left...also I take music and english language a-levels...so this contest is somewhat relevant...even if it's not about that evil Mozart...

      • haha
well, I did half of mine in January so a lot of the pressure is already relieved
I just submitted my coursework for ICT which was a shitload of work - truly gruesome.

Now I just have a 3 hour business studies paper with 4 or 5 essays in it, a 3hour geography exam with 4 essays and two math papers

  • i just get a kick out of trying connect your dots, it makes the synapses fire off like a buckshot accordian

    • ...hang on...I've made a stupid error when writing this stuff...oh wait...did I reply to the right person just then? Oh well...I was gonna say that is an amazing metaphor and now I'm seeing flaming accordians everywhere (only the fire is turquoise...)...the dot thing is kind of like an internet tick...but...tis what makes me memorable in this magical abode...that and the writing of ear wax...

  • Bookmarked = ]
And you're allowed to slap me if I haven't entered before it closes.
I'm not gonna give you a prewrite either, that's just stingy.
I shall write yooh a speshel poem...
    XD

    --Katie--

    • ...well I can't tell if you've entered or not because it anonymized...so...enter if you haven't by order of lord slappyton...or if you have entered and I haven't judged it yet...I shall judge it when the entry time has closededed...

      • Um...Oliver...bad news...

        • ...oooooooooooooh deary deary deary deary me...you're forgiven for you have now commented on my poems THE MOST out of anyone else...which substitutes the other things...

          • I can't help myself!
I'm a lonely young soul, what more is there for me to do?
            It's just become habit now:
"When suffering heartbreak, read Oliver's poems."

            And it works!

  • ...I JUDGED ALL THE ENTRANTS!!!! Until more come...TAKE THAT A-LEVELS!!!

Damnit...I've written a poem for this now..

    • ...if I could increase the deadline point I would...but I put it at the maximum point and won't let me increase it any further...so...sowwy...but you never know...someone else might do a contest like this vewy soon...

      Oliver

  • LOL I know how that goes, I tried running a contest
a while back about a singer that no one has ever heard
of and it didn't work to well.

Ohs well it looks like this one is going well.

    4. Please don't kill yourself or you won't be able to get your prize...
    LMAO.

    That one was funny.

  • thank you, now i do not leave my poems in contests once they are over so i will leave a link here to it

    • ...that's quite alright...honestly that seems like a very fair system...congratulations on winning gold...
