Aware, Rust, and Repair

Hey everyone! My best friend innocence jaded.xx and I have decided to host a contest together! =] You may write about any topic EXCEPT erotica. Please spare us the details of your love life!! ;] Each poem will be graded according to the rubric below.

Other than that, there are only a few rules, and LOTS of options.

HAVE FUN AND BE CREATIVE. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. TRY TO WRITE SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Are you up for the challenge??

♥shestillsmilesx and innocence jaded.xx♥

RUBRIC:

Emotion: __/10

This is the rubric you will be judged off of. Each poem will be judged out of a total of 100 points, 50 of them will be from me and the other 50 from innocence jaded.xx. At the end of the contest, after all five poems are entered and their scores are tallied, the ONE poem from your five that scored the highest will be in the finalist list. BUT, whoever scored the most at the end out of the 500 total points will be the winner.

**ALSO: if you choose to do the prompt where you are inspired by one of our poems, you will receive an extra five points, BUT you can only receive the five extra points ONCE.

Quotes && Song Lyrics:
1] “Sometimes you think you’ve found love, when it’s really just one of those objects that are shiny in a certain light -- a trophy, say, or a ring, or a diamond, even. Glass shards, maybe. You’ve got to be careful, you do. The shine can blind you. The edges can cut you in ways you never imagined. It is up to you to allow that or not. You are the protector of yourself."

2] “Lot of people spend their time just floating
We were victims together but lonely
You got hungry eyes that just can't look forward
Can't give them enough but we just can't start over
Building with bent nails we're
falling but holding, I don't wanna take up anymore of your time”
-- Jack Johnson

3] “I will not leave a letter
Nothing at all
I'm sure you won't notice,
That I'm even gone,
I won't break this silence we've shared for so long,
I will be strong.”
-- Crossfade

4] "I don't want to start thinking again. Not like I have this last week. I can't think again. Not ever again. I don't know if you've ever felt like that. That you wanted to sleep for a thousand years. Or just not exist. Or just not be aware that you do exist. Or something like that. I think wanting that is very morbid, but I want it when I get like this. That's why I'm trying not to think. I just want it all to stop spinning."
-- the perks of being a wallflower

5] “Without you, I live it up a little more everyday
Without you, I’m seein myself so differently
I didn’t wanna believe it then
But it all worked out in the end
When I watched you walk away
Well I never thought I’d say
I’m fine without you.”
-- Hinder

6] I’m done with blaming myself
for something that wasn't even my fault.
I’m done with thinking I’m not good enough for you,
because the truth is:
you're not good enough for me.

7] people have scars in all sorts of unexpected places.
like secret roadmaps of their personal histories.
diagrams of all their old wounds. most of our wounds heal,
leaving nothing behind but a scar. but some of them don't.
some wounds we carry with us everywhere and
even though the cut's long gone, the pain still lingers.

8] I'm trying not to think about
All the things you did before,
But sometimes it all just gets to me.
I can't fake it anymore.
I'll stay with you,
But remember to
Be careful what you do,
Cause I'm not bulletproof.
-- Kerli

9] you're letting her think you're emotionally available.
you're letting her think she has a chance.
and there is nothing worse in the world than
thinking you have a chance, when you really don't.

10] I'm mad at myself, not you. I'm mad for always
being nice. I'm mad for always apologizing for
things I didn't do. I'm mad for getting attached.
I'm mad for depending on you and wasting my
time on you. I'm mad for thinking about you, and
most of all for not hating you when I should.

5] Am I The Only Place That You Have Left To Go?
6] Not Everything Is Black And White

the prompts are all so amazing!

but I'm just a tiny bit confused, you want each person to enter exactly 5 poems? or maximum 5?

    • yesss 5 points each, because at the end of the contest the points will be tallied up by a rubric [which will be placed here shortly] and the total of each poem will be 100, because we'll both read the poem and the scores will be out of 50, so added together equals 100. lol, obviously

then, so one person doesn't get all the trophies, the ONE poem with the highest score will go in the finalists, and then at the end, ALL the points will be tallied up out of 500, and the highest score wins.
we're still editing the rules and stuff, so sorry if it's confusing right now.

        • ohkay, well it will be open for a long while, so you can enter all five in one day, too, if you want. :]

You have some great prompts there. But 5 poems and no rhyme? I couldn't do it, my head would explode and mess up your pretty contest page. We can't have that now can we??

I've noticed that they don't mind a bit of slant rhyme throughout - I think they just don't want any form/structured rhyme.

  • The prompts are excellent. can't wait to write.

  • nice ill try
    <33

  • Nice prompts but i don't think i have it in me to write 5 poems and none with no rhyme.
I'd be like Griswold with the exploding head. I wish you the best of luck with this though.

  • I would've snagged that A Perfect Circle line, but someone beat me, haha.

"& Here I am expecting too much from the wounded." That song is so damn amazing. It reminds me of someone I was quite fond of. I hear it, and it typically brings tears to my eyes. Ah well.

I'm thinking about entering anyway. ♥ I might.

  • This is an awesome contest... This is bookmarked !

  • Gah!
    Can't wait to enter♥
    *bookmarkedd.

  • -Are we allowed to use more than one object in one entry?

  • OMG! I actually managed to finish the contest and post all five poems!! >.<
Thank you so much for the inspirating prompts! They were beautiful.

this was fun. Loved the options.

  • few questions....
so 5 poems/person... does that mean five different TYPES of prompt, or just different prompts?
also... can we edit after youve commented? like, making adjustments and so on and so forth?

They say the last option (being inspired by their works) is optional, so it must be possible to double up options?

    • well you can edit after we've commented but let one of us know that way we can see the improvements and whatnot
and we want 5 freeverse/prose poems from any 5 different prompts, and you may double up on the same topic if you like. since that was kinda confusing, an example would be if you liked 2 of the quotes and wanted to write one poem from each quote. that's what we want.

  • Mind if I use the title of the contest as my poem title? I love it. If not, no worries.

  • man.. that'll take AGES to judge..

  • Thanks for the HM
