Have you adopted a child? Are you in the process of adopting? Do you long to adopt someday? Have you given a child up for adoption?
My husband, my seven year old son and I will be traveling to Russia in the next couple of months to meet our new little boy who will become forever part of our loving family. It's been a long, long emotional journey to this point. We are nervous, scared, excited, thrilled......you name it!
To those of you who have given a child up for adoption: I, personally, find it one of the most selfLESS things a mother could do under many circumstances, so do not feel I would ever judge you. If I see one person judging another, you will be DQ'd immediately!!
What I want from you:
A poem on adopting in general
or
A poem written to your adopted child
or
A poem written to the child you gave up (added)
Here's one I threw together a long time ago:
A Child Awaits
Sitting and waiting far, far away -
Your friends go before you,
Waving with happy, hopeful faces.
Will your turn ever come, you cry?
Where are mommy and Daddy?
Death came too quickly for some.
Others have given up hopes and dreams,
For life has dealt them terrible blows,
Leaving their babies to ache and yearn.
And here I sit pondering our fortune -
One beautiful son we have been blessed.
So much love overflows in our family.
Surely one more sacred miracle awaits us.
Could it be a little one who sits far away?
His face is bare and his age unknown -
But tears are heard at night by our bedside.
He calls out to be loved by someone.
Our work is done, the month is coming.
Do not be afraid, son, you’ll soon be home.
I'm a stickler when it comes to proper punctuation, spelling and grammar. I also do not like when each line is started with CAPS unless the form calls for it.

What a lovely idea for a contest. My partner and I found out a few months ago that I cannot conceive, so we are looking into adoption. Will come back with an entry

Good luck to you! I can no longer conceive either. I've lost 11 children, and it was very painful.

Congratulations. I'm adopted...though I don't want any kids, but if I ever change my mind, I'm going to adopt.

I hope to see an entry from you!

I do have to ask why you aren't adopting from America? there are millions of children that need to be adopted, yet you're traveling to russia...

Your comment is leading and assuming. We've had 2 extremely bad experiences in the US. One ended tragically with the mother coming back and interrupting the adoption. The child was killed 3 months later. Don't think we haven't thought this through.

Of course it's leading and assuming, when I read you're going to adopt a child from Russia I immediately thought Why aren't they adopting from America...there are bad experiences all around us. Many people probably thought the same thing, just didn't want to upset you, but I'm not one to hold back. My family was in a constant battle with my biological egg donor coke head of a mother because she wanted me back...but they fought. I'm sorry your potential child got killed...it's just something that irks me.

what a beautiful person you are to open your heart and home to a child in need. the world can use more people like you. you are doing the children in need a great service by sharing the knowledge and experience of your own journey into adoption. I will be curious to hear more about how it goes for you and your family as things come together in the bringing home of your newest family memeber. good luck and God bless. peace to you always in all ways!!!

I thought I posted a comment, but when I came back to leave an applause, I don't see it.
I don't feel like re-writing it right now. And I don't see the option to leave an applause.
