Avoid cliches like the plague

Always remember you're unique... just like everyone else!

I hope you can have fun with this contest. Write a poem in any style or form, 50 lines or less. The judging will be a little different. The poem with the most oxymorons in it will win.
In the event of a tie then the winner will be selected by the best composed poem based on technical correctness of the form and how interesting I find the content.
(I love to laugh... hint, hint)

So the winners will be chosen for a combination of quantity and quality.

There aren't too many rules but be sure to read them.

Below, you will find an oxymoron list to jump start your muse.

Oxymoronic Statements:

Some people say that I'm superficial, but that's just on the surface.

On one hand, I'm indecisive; but on the other, I'm not.

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's intolerance.

The world's full of apathy, but I don't care.

Perspective is in the eye of the beholder.

Prejudiced people are all alike.

Dreaded Rules:

1. I have to be able to read it, use monochrome backgrounds.

2. Put the number of oxymorons you used in the Author's Notes.

3. Label if adult content.

4. Have fun.

5. Even that one poor lonely guy that has me on his ignore list can enter.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on May 4
  • Rewards: Gold: 2500, Silver: 1500, Bronze: 1000
  • Final notes:
This contest was offered in hopes that you all would have fun with it. Unlike most contests that I host, the best poetry did not necessarily finish in the top of this contest. The object was to pen the most oxymorons in a poem. I kind of wanted to break my own rule and judge on poetic quality because much to my surprise there were some really good entries. At any rate, you guys fowled the rules so I should too.

Gold goes to BearWoman who blew the competition away with 115 oxymorons.
Silver is awarded to Topnotchsy who penned 51 oxymorons in a poem.
DesolatELifE nailed the bronze with 44 oxymorons.

In my opinion I think “Unequivocal Ambiguity” by: PerVirtuous was the best written poem but by my own contest rules I couldn’t give it an award as it only has 27 oxymourns in it, not that that is shabby.

I truly hope you all had fun and I thank you all for making this silly contest a success.

Working on this has been a lot of fun. I was wondering if there was going to be some sort of check into the oxymoron's that have been use, and whose definition of an oxymoron will be considered for the contest (I have a couple of questionable one's myself that I've toyed with, and I've read a couple of entries that left me wondering.)

  • I thought that 'Unequivocal Ambiguity' was bloody brilliant, too.
