Haiku for the Lost Souls

Ok, here is a contest for haiku only. Dosen't need to be 5,7,5 Just needs to be 17 syllables total.

Here's the whole catch.

A friend took his own life a week ago Saturday. Doesen't matter why he did it, he did it.

I want haiku's, and haiku's only on life, and why there is life.

I want you to talk to a suicidal person in your haiku and convince them to live.

There is more!!!

I've chosen several quotes for you to chose your words from.

You can arrange them anyway you like, to make that haiku.

5,7,5 or different. I just want 17 syllable bliss haiku.

Speak brief

Speak powerful

Speak real

I'm only offering a gold here, because in life, I think there would only be one winner! I'm not offering big points here because we are dealing with human life which goes beyond the point system as far as I'm concerned.

Please give me the best you've got.

Please give me fresh and new!

Please dig deep into your soul and find a way to save a life.

Namaste & best wishes

Here it is

Laugh, and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone; For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth, But has trouble enough of its own.

Man alone is born crying, lives complaining, and dies disappointed.

I hasten to laugh at everything for fear of being obliged to weep at it.

Those who don't know how to weep with their whole heart, don't know how to laugh either.
Author: Golda Meir

Weep not that the world changes -- did it keep a stable, changeless state, it were a cause indeed to weep.
Author: William C. Bryant

Two aged men, that had been foes for life, Met by a grave, and wept - and in those tears They washed away the memory of their strife; Then wept again the loss of all those years.
Author: Frederick Tennyson

The truth is, laughter always sounds more perfect than weeping. Laughter flows in a violent riff and is effortlessly melodic. Weeping is often fought, choked, half strangled, or surrendered to with humiliation.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on April 24
  • Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 100, Bronze: 75
  • Final notes:
Ok, Finally done judging this contest. I'm sorry it took so long. Everyone gave such a beautiful piece I had a hard time judging.
I picked haiku because it deals more with the senses rather than emotion.
Ok, based on that passages is my gold trophy winner. My dear friend hit the nail right on the head with this one and gave me exactly what I was looking for!
I had to go against what I initially stated and add a gold and a bronze.
Untitled was so exceptional I had to give it a trophy if not the gold. The author went bold with a chain haiku which was remarkable and Ommmmmmm is just what I think people so need most times.
I want to thank everyone that took the time to participate here with this contest and hope all are respectively proud of your work. There was a larger turn out for this contest than I expected, and hope that everyone got a bit of something from it as well.

Thank you guys all for participating. You all are awesome poets!!!

    Shantti

sure you don't want senyru ... as that deals with emotion as haiku deals with nature ...

    another great quote to consider:
I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing.

does it have to have just one verse or can there be, like, 2 or 3?
