AllPoetry Poet Laureate AWARD

If you could write a poem; from a platform of encouragement, healing, and as an instrument to promote goodwill, humane behavior, and civility… Then, read it to the people, what would it speak?

April is National Poetry Month.
Let's make it Interantional here at AP.
We are looking for our own Poet Laureate.

Is that writer a member here?
Can this person accept constructive critiqe and rebuke disqualification?

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 8
  • Rewards: Gold: 7000
  • Final notes:
First, allow me to Thank Everyone for their patience. I extended this contest four times, and finally ended the contest with 48 submissions.

Every single submission was well thought-out and expertly written. I say that even to those who chose to remove their poems because they did not see them on the Finalists List. I have been guilty of doing the same.

When the contest finally closed, there were 1112 views. I thought; WOW!

I thank the 48 poets who had the courage to enter their words here!

    I am sure that most contest holders say;

"THIS WAS ONE OF THE HARDEST CONTESTS I HAVE EVER HAD TO JUDGE!"

That is probably because it is, was, and will continue to be a task to give merit to one person's heartfelt sentiments over another's.

I added 14 poems to my Finalists List. Through the process of elimination, myself and six other lover's of poetry (those who enjoy reading poetry) outside this site, deliberated long and hard, until we were left with 4 outstanding poems.

It took an entire day of discussion to come to the poem that earned the winning stripes.

Again I say; THIS WAS NO EASY TASK!

    Without further ado...

    The WINNER!

    And

    2009 ALLPOETRY POET LAUREATE

    “CALLING ALL NATIONS”

    http://allpoetry.com/poem/5227237

This poem engages the reader to enormous heights. It compels us to lift the wings of our better angels. After reading through these words the second time, I stood to my feet and cheered. The message of LOVE and kinship, of unity, brother and sisterhood... coursed through my blood like a rushing stream. The hair on my arms stood at attention. If you have yet to read the inspiration and common sense written here, you are doing yourself an injustice. The way to peace is not as hard as we tend to believe it is. LOVE is the answer!

"The hopes and aspirations of each and everyone
of us are connected by threads from the same cloth.
The tapestry of humanity necessitates repair,
for the stitches of our hearts are bleeding
    with apathy and hatred.
Let us recommit our devotion to this great gift of life
and unite as one mind for the cause of a better world.
Understanding that only by love can we solve
the tremendous complexities set before us.
To guarantee our children the same rights given to us
which is a better future in a world of many wonderful possibilities."

    YES!

    Thanks again ONE and ALL!

    Much Love & Many Blessings

    Renee ♥

Looks like I'll have to hold another contest for those under 18. I prefer to keep this one for adults, that does not lessen your talent or caliber of writing ability. I am well aware of how much youth/young adult talent there is on this site. Thank you for your interest.

Why 18 and over? I'm just wondering... it sounds like something illegal for underage people. =)
