To all dog lovers who know dogs think and skeptics who believe that dogs don't think:
What the heck are dogs thinking anyway? Do you think you know?
If you don't have a dog, use a famous dog and tell me what you think is in his/her head. If you do have a dog, try to put a pic of it on the poem. Consider what the dog thinks about himself, other dogs, small game animals, being trained, eating, going for walks, the attention you give to him, being groomed, the house, his bed...You get the idea?
Humor is welcome as well as serious attempts to really figure out what a dog is thinking. Some of both would be great.
I truly love dogs and have two of my own. I would love to get your views on what dogs are thinking. Come on, bark it up.
RULES AND INFO
1. Any form, but flow counts, so attempt to make it flow nicely.
2. No profanity
3.No less than 8 lines and no more than 40 lines
4. No slamming dogs...I love them (see above)
5. Prewrites are allowed, but will be judged with a more critical eye.
6.Grammar and spelling must be correct to win gold, silver and bronze
7. Don't be afraid to express yourself the way you want to (except for breaking rules) because I like many types of poetry. No form will get my attention more than another form
8. You may reserve a spot.
Lastly, I allow editing up until the contest is officially closed. I might drop a few lines if I see something that you might need to address in order to win. I ALWAYS read the poems after the contest is over, and I ALWAYS will comment on all poems.
RESCUE A DOG TODAY. YOU WON"T BE SORRY YOU DID.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on April 8
- Rewards: Gold: 1200, Silver: 800, Bronze: 500, Honorable mention: 3 people
- Final notes: I had a terrible time putting the top eight into an order that made sense to me. Even now, I wonder about the honorable mentions and what order the last few poems should have taken. There were also a number of poem that I truly liked that I did not put into the top eight. I explained to some of them why I could not award prizes to them.
In a few days, when I reread these poems, I might say, "WHY did I leave that one out?"
Space and caprice, probably! Or, perhaps, I was put off by those of you who did not take the advice that I had given so long ago.
I urge all of your to read ALL of the entries. You will be glad you did. None are undeserving of attention.
Thanks for entering. I am sorry that I could not give everyone something.

Excellent idea for a contest. I often wonder what my dog is dreaming about when I see his little paws running in his sleep. I am going to enjoy reading some of the entrees myself!

I love this idea for a contest, Joyce! I love my two dogs more than I can say. I've lost some of my best friends too and that pain cuts deeper than I can explain in words. Hope you are doing well! I've missed you! Love to you always!
