    your stairway

    Hopi Indians used to (and I believe they still do) have a ceremony called Wuwuchim, which is a kind of spiritual rebirth.
    They gather in a Kiva (which is a big round adobe building with a ladder leading up through a hole in the roof) sometime during the month of November and wait for a certain group of stars (the Pleides) to appear and then rush up the ladder to the outside to be reborn again.
