March is Women's History Month.
March 8th is International Women's Day
March 22nd is Mothers' Day in the UK
What we want are poems showing
(for example)
the changing roles of women throughout history
the struggles of women for equality throughout history
achievements of individual women - role models
the role of women in global society 2009
anything that fits with the ethos of WHM , IWD.
Research research research
We are not going to tell you about these things- if you do not know, information is a few fillips of a finger away.
We want to read poems by women. We also want to read poems by men.
We reserve the right to remove poems that are disrespectful to the spirit of this contest, or are disrespectful to women in any way shape or form.
We do not want any gender bashing.
We would prefer that any entry is not in any other current contest, and does not have notes for other contests it has been in attached to it. Reposts are welcome if they fit our criteria.
Contest run by Eva Brik, Ca ne fait rien and The Bear.
It is about the poetry not about points or trophies.
Be proud of what you write. That is all that matters.
We however would request that you check your spelling etc as we tend to be a bit fussy about that.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on March 20
- Rewards: Gold: 1500, Silver: 1500, Bronze: 1500
- Final notes: We want to thank everyone for contributing to this contest. We loved all the entries and wish that we did not have to judge one poem against another. They all approached it differently, they all had something important to say .The finalists list is in no particular order. We wish we could award everyone trophies or no one trophies.
Kicking and screaming, we eventually chose
"For the Magic" for the gold spot because of its topicality and the overall importance of the message.
"What every Suffragette should carry" for silver the joy de vivre and because we felt it caught the spirit of woman perfectly.
"March" for bronze because of the way it was written and the different issues it raised- we dscussed it over and over and everytime found something new in the poem.
We thank those of you who read and commented on each others' poems. We hope that at some point there will be an application on AllPoetry where theme poems like these can be stored and found easily to read for interest and inspiration.
Stefan, Niko and Carolyna.

I am bookmarking this. I hope I can do it justice.

Thank you Scott. I am sure you can. We hope to gather together a little anthology from as many people as possible here on AP at least for WHM 2009

Hi, any chance of prewrites? pretty please,Di
-
-
Hi Di
I have no problem with something already written, but I do not want poems with previous commentaries or that are in other contests, or have all the clutter from contests they have been in attached to them. If you want to enter it as a fresh poem, that is fine with me.
-
-
I wrote a piece that I would love to enter but I have to be honest and say that I wrote it awhile back and have it archived on my hard-drive just not on this site. May I enter it? I don't care that it wouldn't place I just want to be able to showcase it here....Please let me know. Thank you
-
-
Absolutely no problem. As I said to Di above, as long as there is no previous commentary or stuff appertaining to other contests, I do not mind when it was written. My aim was for this to be more of a showcase than a contest.

Thank you!!

Nice contest. I wont lower the grade point average though. This contest deserves poems by poets.
You'll get some great entries though I should think.

Hi Dave
get it written mate.

LOL ... Stefan, look..OK.. give me a few days? I'll have to do some "research research research" all I can offer you at the moment is that Australias Mothers day generally falls on my birthday. Our two daughters really have their work cut out for 'em that day. Breakfast in bed X 2

OK. I might do a freelance ... LOL...LOL... freeverse sorry (I've been talking to Ryby about magazine articles) ... about my state giving women the vote before all the others.. or something...
-
-
Fantastic!
We will take a freelance or a freeverse, but you know as well as I do you can
poem it.
Tell Ryby to do something too- All those groundbreaking sportswomen Straya produces...

Thank you for taking time to do this. The contest has been put in the spotlight section.
Kari,

what a great subject to start on a contest

Thank you.

I've made arrangements to take my mum for lunch next week, so thanks for reminding me (early!) of Mother's Day!

I'm always so last-minute, it feels great to show my mum how organised I can be
-
-

She will be so impressed!
Now you have reminded me to make a card. (To tight to buy one
)
-
-
a hand-made card is a work of art!

Too bad you dont allow pre-writes. I have a fairly good one about the 1913 Sufferagette Derby. It was written for a contest that was canceled.
Best of luck on this one.

Hi
I said to others who enquired- I have no problem with a poem that has been written already, I just do not want all the previous comments and contest information attached to it. It you want to submit it as a repost, or simply copy paste it as a new poem in this 'contest' I would be delighted to see it here.

Thank you so much for the gold ... it was a subject that moved me and I was happy to see that others felt the same
