Sick of lazy contest hosts?

Sick of entering contests where the host hasn't got the decency to comment or even thank you for entering? Then this is the one for you. Out of the last 10 contests i've entered i've had a total of 2 comments. Arkbear's poem of the month, and justrob's big one. It's a fucking disgrace. I used to promote my poems but as hardly anyone can be arsed to comment i've stopped doing it and thought i'd start a contest. I will comment on all poems to the best of my ability and grade you all on Imagery, metaphor, feeling, and grammar. And Wowzers, no rules or fucking stupid author notes required!

Now i've got that off my chest, good luck to you all.

P.S. Pictures and fancy fonts do fuck all for me.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on March 10
  • Rewards: Gold: 750, Silver: 300, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:
That was so hard to judge, I managed to get my top 10, but even that was a nightmare. UNKNOWN SKY was just fantastic. WALKING IN SHADOWS was so full of emotion and eerie imagery. TO ILL MANNERED HOSTS was just absolutely hilarious. The other finalists are in no particular order, sorry my comments were brief but I got a system message telling me to hurry up and judge, Imagine the embarrassment of having the contest cancelled with no comments from me! thanks to all who entered and I know you won't all agree with my decisions, and on another day things might have been different. Anyway cheers.

I completely feel your pain.....I always comment on every entry I get in any of my contests, even if I do not understand a word of it! I try to find something constructive and/or upbeat about it!! What is wrong with people these days anyway?? Common courtesy is no longer common I guess.......Good luck here!

I also quite enjoy when I write for one and not only does the host NOT comment on the entries but then decides that since they have little entries or they didn't get what they were looking for they up and cancel the contest without so much as a "Fuck-off" ........All your hard work totally disregarded! Maybe they should post a line by line detailing of what they want, save everyone some heart-ache! Ok....well that was my rant

On a side note...is the prompt "Floorboards"?

Nice contest my friend, I feel your pain, featuring is fucking worthless when the dip shit's just click and run, and what is the problem with contest holders anymore? It's fucking common courtesy to comment on a poem in your own contest. If they dont have the time to comment why are they even holding one? I bet not a one of those who hold these so called "quickies" anymore ever entered a true quickie or know you are the one who started them.
10 x 10 x 10 Those were the days. Hell yes I'll enter something here, at least I'm guaranteed one comment. Rock on brother!!! Scott

True... and canceling a contest without commenting because the host got "so few entries" is really rude. No commenting is like having a party and not speaking to the guests. And canceling a contest for few entries is like having a party and kicking everybody out because the "favorite friends" did not arrive as expected.

You really got my attention here. I think that it is common courtesy to comment on all poems submitted in contests. I always do in mine. The Internet is wonderful, but it is also so impersonable which makes it even more important to be polite and show appreciation for the effort others have made. Perhaps what we are seeing is a reflection of society in general. I sincerely hope not!

    Good luck with the contest!

Yay! I'd just about given up on entering contests because of this type of problem and worse yet - had become solidly disgusted with even starting contests because of the grandiose bullshit I encounter with each. So, cheers to you on this one! When I find my Muse, I'll be back to add my writing to the wall!

must be you haven't entered any of mine - I have NEVER not commented on entries!!
and yes, that is very rude, I think, for someone not to comment on the entries in their contests....
If my muse will co-operate, I'll try to enter

      Bloody great idea, Gaylene.

I was thinking of having a list entitled, "Crass comments by contest hosts, showing they don't understand squat about my art", but I thought that would be pushing it a wee bit.

  • i feel so guilty...however, my last contest is the only one that i keep procrastinating on...due to recent family illnesses, but i hope your not one of the contestants!
    that would suck, my friend.
    good luck in this

  • Oh hell yes!! I reckon AP needs to make it compulsary for hosts to comment on contests!! I always comment on entries, and I do a lot of contests!

Long ago I found that contest-surfing on AP was marginally less of a waste-of-time than casting pearls before swine. Marginally.

This subject happens to be one of my peaves also. When they don't comment on a prewrite I get over it quickly. But when I get inspiration from their contest and invest my heart soul in a new poem and they don't even say "Thank you for entering my contest"

I know how you feel. I always try my best to comment, but working fulltime plus being a student and site-greeter can be a killer sometimes. I like sharing the points though

    Contest Hosts Who Don't Comment!!!

List: Contest Hosts Who Don't Comment!!!

It happens to us all. We see a contest that sets fire to our muse. We become happy and excited about writing poetry again.
"We pour our Soulful, Blood, Sweat and Tears"

    into our inspiration driven poetry.

And then it happens... We log on two weeks after entering that contest and read a "Note"

The Contest That Inspired Your Muse To Enter A Poem... Has Ended!!!

Ok, so we see that the announcement is not followed

by... You Won Gold, Silver, Bronze, Or...

    Honrable Mention

That's ok too, we can't win every contest we enter.

So we look for the note that should be just below the "Contest Has Ended Note"

commenting on the poem we wrote for and entered into their contest, but we find nothing but hurt feelings! We're left with a feeling of being...

    "Disrespected, unappreciated and used!"

I have created this list so that I will never enter another contest being hosted by...

An Inconsiderate Son of A Bithch Again!
