Pre-writes, with conditions

So I was looking through some of my old poems today and I was surprised at how many of them were inspired by contests held on AP but were either too long or too short, or in some other way didn't fit the criteria listed in the contest overview.

I know this happens because I get the inspiration to write and then start and its not until I finish writing that I look at the fine print. Then I end up with a poem I think to be good that no-ones sees.

This contest is to give you somewhere to showcase those poems. Your poem must fit into one of two criteria:

1: Poems that were written on the contest prompt or inspired by the contest but did not follow the technical criteria.

i.e.:

a : They rhymed when they weren't supposed to.
b : They didn't rhyme when they were.
c : They had too many lines/words.
d : They didn't have enough lines/words.
e : The meter or form structure was wrong.

2: Poems that were removed by the host for not complying to rules or criteria that were not specified in the contest overview.

*For this one you must have a comment on the poem by the contest host explaining why it was removed.

So, simple yes? As I don't want to wade through hundreds of pre-writes I will be limiting this contest to forty entries at one entry per poet, please post an entry you yourself are proud of.

Rules:

1: Fresh writes will be removed from this contest, it is for pre-writes only. Specifically those written before the date this contest is posted.

2: Do not post poems that refer to cutting, suicide, rape, murder or drug use. Nor anything else that is not allowed by site rules.

3: Do not post "Dirty Pretty" or poems that use "Sticky Caps" or strange formatting. I find them uncomfortable to read and even more difficult to recite, sorry.

4: Place in your Author notes what it was that disqualified you from the contest that you had intended the poem to be in. This is just so that I know and to see if you can remember.

Guide:

I will comment on each entry, I will present my opinion and a critique. I will do this even on poems I remove. I do the best that I can at it but I am by no means perfect, nor am I everyman. If you don't want the comment, don't post.

Enjoy.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on March 18
  • Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:
Thank you all for entering my contest. I am so glad that you presented pieces that you yourselves were clearly proud of and that fit my criteria.

I would have loved to give you all at least HM's, as your work is deserving of credit (and it would have made final judging sooooo much easier) but I don't feel right doing so.

All of the work submitted was a great joy to read and I can only encourage you all to look at the other works submitted if you haven't already.

It was very difficult for me to choose between the entries to award trophies yet I am satisfied that the ones I chose were deserving of the recognition that is attached to that. While they may not have all been technically perfect that certainly didn't diminish their poetic qualities, at least not to me.

I wish you all all of the best in fortune and luck; I hope you continue to write with the spirit and enthusiasm that you have displayed in the entries you presented for me to read.

And most of all I hope that you all write from your desire to write and never get discouraged, regardless of what strange people a half a world away might say.

    Adrian.

  • if it says in a comment what we got disqulified for, do we have to put it into the AN?

    • I'll say no, as the requirement for having the comment was only for option two I thought I'd throw that in the rules just so that I would know why it was removed for option one.
