Top of the evening to ye, I'm Amber, and this is my lovely first contest. I have wanted to create a contest for a couple weeks ever since I joined mid-February, and I finally scratched up enough points to do so.
Let's see how well I can describe what I want in this contest:
Simplicity, calmness, or day-to-day actions in the face of danger or pain. Having reactions contradictory to the weight of the situation. Or, to put it more simply: taking the "wrong" actions in the face of something that has happened.
I have never understood society's obsession with "correct" reactions to pain, or even happiness. I want entries that reject these social norms.
I can't easily translate my thoughts into coherent English, so I'll give some examples of the sort of things that I want. (NOTE: These are not prompts; they are "for instance"s. You can use them for your poem, but I might dock some favor points if you do -- unless you've written your poem in a completely yummy and marvelous way, that is.)
-like the title, having your tea time at the end of the world
-skipping your loved one's funeral to paint watercolors
-visiting a graveyard after your child has been born healthy
-playing sweet flute music in the middle of a bloody battle
Just for your information, I am attracted to morbid writing, like Edgar Allen Poe -- but be warned, I utterly despise cliches. If you are writing a dark poem, I do not want "abyss" or "eternal" or any such silly words anywhere in sight, unless they are used in an original manner.
-----------
Just a few rules:
-Respect the English language; make sure your grammar is moderately correct.
-I won't delete your entries immediately if they don't hold to the rules or the theme; but I'll let you know. If you don't change your mistakes, your poem will be vaporized from the contest.
-I cannot stress the fact that I can't stand cliches. Do not use them. Be warned.
-Pre-writes are allowed, but only if they are very good and fit well with the theme. I will check, believe me. Look over your pre-writes before posting. I reserve the right to delete any pre-writes I feel have nothing to do with my contest.
------------
Merci, gracias, I thank thee! I love reading poetry, enter if you wish!

NOTE: I am now adding finalists to the finalist list, but don't be intimidated to enter because you see I already have favorites. I've been frightened away from contests because of such things, but don't hesitate to add your piece (provided it fits with my theme). ^_^

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on March 11
- Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 100, Bronze: 30
- Final notes: Hullo! This has been a very interesting contest to be the judge of. By 'interesting' I mean, 'a mix of amazing wonder and screeching terror.' By that I mean this: there have been very, very good poems; and also there have been very, very good poems that did not fit with my bloody theme AT ALL. But those ill-fitted pieces were few, and I deleted them from my contest.
So, that means that if your poem is still on the list of entries, you did not anger me! Huzzah!
Actually it's hard for me to say whether or not this contest was easy to judge. All the poems were good, by the general opinion of poetry as a whole -- but the winners were my personal favorite pieces.
So -- well done to you all, and it would give me glee if you would enter my next contest (if ever there is one). Ta ta!
