Inauguration, anyone?

I'm so excited. I've been an Obama supporter for a long time – I volunteered for his campaign, and I cried when he won. [My friends made fun of me.]

So I'm really looking forward to the inauguration, and while I know most AP members probably don't pay much attention to politics, I know I can't be the only one... so I'm looking for the rest of us.

Here's the challenge: write something about politics, or politicians, or especially the inauguration; something that says how you feel about politics, but does so in a poetic way. Make every line gorgeous. Make it not cliché.

That means if you enter something about how all politicians are liars and cheats [which I can't exactly disagree with, as an Illinois native], then make it the best damn poem ever.

My only rule is to enter something you think should win, something you're happy with.

I'll add more points/honorable mentions if the entries are good.

Have fun, and good luck!

  • Final notes:
Thanks for entering, everyone! Every poem was so different – it made reading the entries very interesting. I loved the different takes on the prompt. And my inauguration high has finally dissipated, but rereading these poems is bringing it back...

I appreciated all the entries! They were all good, but the finalists were just beautifully written; congratulations, guys!
