Ok people. This is a HUGE Quickie Contest. You've only got a couple days
and there are BIG POINTS to score.
I want to lift spirits... I want to make my best friend and her family feel love
beyond explanation. I want them to be able to say ... "Wow! That was some poem!".

Now... the story in brief. You'll notice above... an Obituary.
My BEST FRIEND of many years, lost her father to Cancer yesterday AM.
Ever since she had called me at 3:30 am... it's been on my mind.
I can't do much for her...we live in different towns. However... One thing
I can do, aside from going to the services, is this contest.

** What I want **

Basically, I want poems that are going to make them
feel and know that they are being thought of during this hard time.
There can be humor, if you like... but don't over do it
I would also like to be able to have your permission to print the poems
out, with copyright of course... so that Monday, when I go to the visitation,
I can hand them to Melissa and her family.

GOLD : 1500 pts !!
Silver : 750 pts!!
Bronze : 375 pts!!

And at least 5 HM's.

** RULES **

~ ABSOLUTELY NO porn/erotica/swearing. This is NOT that type of contest.
~ Only 1 entry per person
~ No Prewrites. This is a contest for Melissa. I hardly think you've written
one to her before about her dad passing.
~ IF you reserve, please come back..otherwise, of course.. you'll be cut out of
the contest.
~ I want, in your AUTHOR'S NOTES... whether or not you give me permission
to print your poem, Your NAME, and an email.. so that the family can thank you
in person... if they'd like to. <--- IF that information is not included, I will
DQ you, because that would mean you didn't read this rule. Sorry.

** One more thing **

Melissa has been there for me over my youngest son's father's passing,
and many more times in the past. I feel this is, at best, the very least I can
do for her. Please dig within your hearts to help me, help her. She's an
awesome person.

Thank you...

And Enter with a kind heart!!

~Aimee

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on January 17
  • Rewards: Gold: 1500, Silver: 750, Bronze: 375, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:
First... let me start out by saying just how hard this contest was to judge...and I apologize for it taking so long. I had help in the judging process, as it was too hard for me to decide.

I want to thank all of you from every inch of my heart, for entering this contest.... and those of you that went further to sign the Guestbook for JR. The family was thankful as well.

I printed all the poems, added a graphic to the page, (basically a heart with wings and a halo), and put them all in a binder with plastic sleeves, then decorated it nicely, to present to the family. I gave it to them, when I went to the funeral on Tuesday. I hope that the book will help them remember and to ease some of the pain and sadness.

    Anyway.... without further adeu..

    Here are the winners:
    (which I did not pick)

    First place.... "I Am Forever"
    Second place.... "Family Lost"
Third place .... "My Deepest Condolences"

    HM's (in no certain order)

"You Still Won", "A Death In The Family",
"Father's Watch", "A Heartbeat Away", and "This Is True".

**Special thanks to John Johnson, writer of "Hope's Angels" for showing sheer compassion in your write, as well as your author notes. You have true Heart, and if you would have let me... I'd have awarded you to the fullest.**

This is a beautiful idea. I hope that I'm able to work something out for you but in the event I can't before Monday, please know that my heart goes out to Melissa for her loss.

    All my Best,

This is truly going to be HARD for me to judge.
I've shared the link with Melissa in the beginning... but I've told her
that now, she cannot come here to read, just yet. I want these writes to be a surprise to herself and her family. I can guarantee that they will be.

Wow!! What an outpouring of heart from my fellow poets.
I am so Proud to be a member here.

Thank you all for taking the time to write for Melissa and her family.
I've also noticed that some of you have signed the guestbook.... Thank you.
    You're ALL awesome!

Thanks for honoring me with Bronze.. I'm hoping her and the family are getting better, but no doubt these trials in life take time, all my love to you, her, and the family. Glad they liked my poem, and I hope they found some comfort knowing many care. Peace.
