RESERVE A SPOT. WHERE YOU'D USUALLY PUT THE POEM, TELL ME WHICH SHAKESPEARE PLAYS YOU'VE READ. it's okay if you haven't read any. i will then comment with a play you haven't read. you read the play and write a poem or piece of short prose about any aspect of it that fascinates you. for instance, if you get "hamlet," you can parodise a famous soliloquy, have gertrude contemplate something or someone in the play, write a witty love poem from rosencrantz to a stapler, use a common metaphor/image/theme in the play (like flesh being "gross" and "base"), etc. pretty much anything goes as long as it has something to do with the play you've been given. just put your assigned work and what you did with it in your notes -- and don't worry, no one will be disqualified for forgetting!
...someone needs to write a sappy love poem about rosencrantz and a stapler. in fact, if you've read all the plays (which i doubt), this is your option.
don't own a shakespeare anthology? here's a trusted link to all the plays:

have fun! points will be added if the entries are good.

- Contest was judged on March 18
- Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 50, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 2 people
- Final notes: sorry for the wait. next time i think i'll have a set time limit and such so there's no rush for last-minute entrants to finish plays. and i'm lazy. but anyways, i was surprised by the great quality; everything entered was good and i loved all the entries. hope you liked the contest, and again my apologies.

Shakespeare I adore, but since my option is Rosencrantz and he stapler I'll have to pass
-
-
boooo!

The idea of Rosenkrantz and the stapler is interesting. I presume you have been reading about the idea of what various authors call "duality" or "binarity" in Hamlet... noting in particular that Guildenstern and Rosencrantz are, in effect, an indistinguishable pair... and almost "stapled" together!
But, sorry, I have no time to write a poem for you on this theme. For I have an article to deliver ("Accuracy and Artistry in Hyrhoriy Kochur's tanslation of Hamlet") by next Monday - and I have a huge slew of references still to check. -
-
I adore Shakespeare criticism, but actually I've kind of avoided the Hamlet criticism because it's its own huge, daunting shelf in the university library and I want to finish everything else first.
But the idea is familiar; something I've noticed reading the play. Nice to know it has an actual name!
Good luck on your article; it sounds really interesting and I'm not even lying. Do you publish anywhere?
-
-
I so wish I could do this.
-
-
why can't you?

-
Interesting idea ...
but your requirements are too rigorous for me to even think about this. I'm too ill now to feel like writing anyway. However, I agree with Jeff. I despise sappy love poems.
Good luck with this in any case. It's a great idea, in most respects. -
If only I'd never read that play.... I want to write an ode to a stapler...
-
-
you still can, lol. i am all for strange shakespearean romances, period. like antonio from twelfth night and antonio from merchant of venice could so totally be gay lovers.
-
-
I KNOW, RIGHT???
-
is there an as you like it movie? lol
Are you closing in four hours???!!! Or 29 entries.... you should...maybe extend the contest so I can read the play lol---it'll take me a day, and then writing it requires some time--it can be very difficult finding a good proveyor of cock's blood and apothecaries this time of year so.....could take a couple hours. Then there's the incantations, the traditional reading of the sacred texts, the crying, and the banging of the head on the keyboard. It is HIGHLY ritualized. -
-
why, of course! i was just going to do that but i got distracted by lost

it'll probably be for another two weeks, if that's sufficient

wish i had the time.... meanwhile: http://allpoetry.com/poem/1510453

I love the concept!
You give me the play of your choice and I'll write for it! -
hi, i really have to apologize for not having this done yet, i'm speeding through the rest of my play now and should have both the play and poem done within 2-3 days, if that's acceptable
-
-
yep, that's fine; i'm judging on saturday, since i have essays and and a project for my own shakespeare class to do this week. take care xx
-
-
i finally finished my poem, i think i may be the last one to do so; sorry for being such a dreadful procrastinator!
-
-
-
Thank you for the accolade.
-
Wow didn't expect to win something lol thanks so much!
I had a lot of fun with this contest.
Best,
El
