The Natural World: I am holding this contest in honor of AsIThink who has published his tale of "Noye's Story: A Fly On The Wall". (http://www.lulu.com/content/5300818). Much of his work is about observing the natural world, and about the birds and animals (even the fly!) who share our world. So, this is the contest:
Write me a poem about the natural world, and/or the birds or animals that inhabit it. Make me smile, contemplate, weep, or rage – but make me feel something. Please keep it under 30 lines!
Contest closes Jan. 1, 2009
Rules:
1. No dirty/pretty
2. No sticky caps
3. Nothing erotic or adults-only. Kids should be able to read it.
4. Rhymes are nice, but I also like free verse.
5. Pre-writes are fine, but must meet the contest intent and rules.
6. Please keep it under 30 lines.
7. Only one entry per poet, please.
8. Please use spell check. If there are spelling or grammar errors I will IM you and you may fix. If you don’t, you will likely not win.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on January 3
- Rewards: Gold: 600, Silver: 300, Bronze: 150, Honorable mention: 5 people
- Final notes: This was my first contest, and as difficult to judge as everyone says it is. Each entry was so different to the others, and each deserved a trophy; unfortunately we can only give out the three trophies and five honorable mention. The Gold poem was beautifully crafted and touched on nature in an especially touching way. Silver put her judicious eye on the food chain, and suggested that after all one should learn rather than judge. Bronze personified the journey of an eaglet in a true to its nature unsentimental manner. The Honorable Mentions were also each special, and are placed in no particular order -- I couldn't possible place them. Thank you so much for entering. Each of you spoke to my muse, and I found all of your poems inspiring.

This year was only a gleam in my eye...
Was in a very bad situation at work and never could get past the opening. This would have been my fourth year, and although I haven't gotten to the end I have increased the previous three years with 7,000, 11,000, and 17,000 respectively. Last year some of my eighth graders participated and one girl wrote 25,000 during November then finished her 50k by March. It was WAY COOL!!! -
