Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on January 1
  • Rewards: Gold: 11000, Silver: 1000, Bronze: 500, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:

Happy New Years to you all ~

I had to make a call on what to do here with *everyones* complaints.......first off....I did make a mistake....aboomer should have had the 2nd HM....I missed her other score by ilsekine....I am so sorry ~

Personally, I do feel as though many of your works were not recognized as they should have been.....but I can not change scores from each Judge which were sent to me....I had to go by the Rules and not be biased, ....another word which I was called today...geeesh!

I see a couple have pulled their work, I guess because they as well did not think the Contest was fair......my goodness, what does it take to please everyone?

We have 12,000 points left in the Banks for the PO' COntests, as soon as those are gone, I have to leave this place

Just because I ama Christian, does not mean I do not have the right to speak my mind.....Jesus did it all the time to those who kept sinning.....and if you hear my voice, you have heard the voice of Gods child........sorry to place a damper on your New Year.....but it was time to let those who condemn and persecute the children of the Lord, to know.......Get behind me satan, and flee from this place!

    Glory!

(Yes, I already know I am going to get insults on this....but whatever) ....I really did enjoy this contest....thank you to those who spoke up for us.....for me.....this was not easy, and there can only be one Gold winner.....Congrats Valerie.....may each of you....even my enemies.....be blessed and thank GOD, I don't have tio go out and use drugs....cut myself....or drink over those who sent their venum flying......God loves you.....so do I!

If you want a REAL Challenge, there, is where you will find it.....thanks boom for letting me know of my mistake......Bear is out!

This is a Poet who I have just met a month ago, and she brought her best, and it worked ~ Great job!

Your Bronze winner earned 382.9 points!

Nice job.....so good to see your talen in the POY!

Your HM's AE in order of scores added by scoring Judges for your work..>>>

Only 3 Poets received 4 votes and scores.....>>>

    1..Eye of the Beholder

All other entries did not reach the ( 6 ) Top Spots....nonetheless, you are did an extremely great job this year!

    On a sad note..>>>

There was undeserving friction....there was drama from Readers who commented on Poets entries....and there were even a few entries pulled in this POY....this saddens me -

The PO' Contests were created for a few specific purpose.....to house our own Rules the way we wanted them to be, and for you to challenge yourself to obide by them ..and last, to find great Poets who have even a Greater Imagination without all of the Phrase & Graphic Prompts, Fancy Backgrounds & such to enhance their writes
The Challenge is not in how well you can write Poetry.....the true Challenge is how well you can write if from the heart ~

Right from the start, write from the heart ~

We just completed 100 PO' Contests.....all of my Judges from the earlier days should be Very proud of what you have accomplished!

I am sorry your other 4 Judges could not make the deadline, but if anyone knows me, they will know that I stay on time with these contests.....and if their scores were not in by 9 pm my time..(it tells you on contest page what my time is)...then your few score went void ~

I want to give a HUGE thanks to Kevin, Owner of AP....as he is awarding a 6 month Gold Membership to troyias....or credit to her existing account....that is so awesome -

Kevin did the same last year as well, as he has also awarded 11 Silver Memberships to 11 other Poets during this past year alone -

My hat is off to you kevin.......the PO' Contests are grateful for your generosity ~

    Time to thank my Judges.....>>>>

trista......you and I have crossed many a bridge together in the past 100 PO' Contests....I'm sorry your health did not permit you to make the last POY on AP.......you have been my right hand, just as islekine has been here while you have been gone.....and then some....my hugs could not be biggest enough for you ~

Starz of Heaven....Immortal Obscurity.....Boomer.....Cupcrazy....Neon RoPerdu....Wrinkling Minds....Floorboards....Xianaria....xianarialifestime......and those who I have forgotten at this moment.....you have done a great thing here for many Poets ~

Amera & Cricket Jeff....than you for your help...I can see we have quite a large scale of difference in how we preceive Poetry.....no worries....it's all good.....the written word is to be adored....not scorned......and for those who did.....well, as Rheea would say....I did it Myyyyyy waaaayyyyy!

Many will say we don't know what we are doing....(wait, there have already been so many say that already) ...oh well.....we did it, not them ~

Enough chitter chattin.......God bless you ALL & have a VERY safe & Happy New Year....may you find your dreams and Prosper along the way.....tired here, so if I have spelled things incorrectly.....so what....it's the end of the year!!!!!!

    Woooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

    STAY SOBER!!!!

You are all GREAT Poets and Writers....I shall miss so many of you as I journey over

...that is where the REAL Challenge is going to be........Black Font....White Background......and one tool..

    ...your IMAGINATION!

Back to Basics Poetry.....time to find the next Great Poet!

islekine....wow....what a trip these past 12 months......God shall bless you richly for being a HUGE part of the PO's ~

Thank you for being here when Julie and I were out and away....you kept things going....I could not have asked for more....bless you

    That's it.....

    ...and remember,

May Your Higher Power & the Power of Your Quill,
    Always, Be Your Strength!

2 hours ago As I said before Bear, feel free to edit any and all!
Can't wait to see who comes out on top!
WHERE are all of those other judges???

Aloha and Welcome to the amazing 10 finalists!
First I have to say…Thank you and congratulations
to Bear (and Trista) on their work in the PO contests.
They bring out the best in the best. My hat’s off to you
for all of the hard work and dedication you have put into
these contests. An awesome task Bear! Thanks for
the honor of first, being an entrant and now a judge.
Now to the business at hand:
This has been one heck of a ride, to say the least.
Just so you know, for those not familiar with my
likes, I always take a Good fresh write, over a
pre-write…that’s just me…I also shy away from
rhyme…although I do pen it also, it’s not my favorite,
I appreciate free verse much more…creativity, in my
book, does not and never will include; love, religion,
or politics…again, just me. Now, on occasion, these
can be written from such a unique and creative perspective,
that I do appreciate and sometimes score them quite highly,
but it is rare. I have to remember your poem, when I read
the first line…otherwise, I don’t feel there was an impact,
or impression made. Grammar and spelling are essential,
as well as following all of the rules!
Best wishes to you all!! I look forward to seeing who
comes out on top!!!! My scores are high…because I
picked the ones that were the BEST in my Book!
    Write on and on…

Not sure how this is going to work…but here are my
top ten…and their scores from me…hope some of you
    make it to the end!!!

The one problem I have with these contests is all the restrictions. If you're really looking for the poem of the year (or month, or week), wouldn't you be accepting of many more styles and types (though not all, I definitely understand the use of some restrictions)? It's the "no poetry in forms" rule that especially irks me, but also the 40 line limit. Hmm, I guess what I'm trying to say is that a contest as important (and sponsored) as this should be focused more on the poems and less on the formatting and style. Individuality should be embraced, especially in our world of repression.

Sorry for the rant. just wanted to say I was excited to see this before reading all those restrictions.

We are sorry you have missed the point of the PO' Contests, and your comment is common for those who do not understand what the PO' COntests are for ~

After 100 PO's, and numerous other SO's & BO's, we have only become more popular with Poets on AP ~

      The idea behind the O' Series....is Imagination......period, that's it....imagination ~

No Graphics...no Prompts....no fancy Borders or anything which will deter the Reader from the true talent of the Poet and their incredible quills -

Trust me, had you been around a year and a half ago, you would have a more open assessment of this Contest........thank you for stopping by.....I hope you find the *type* of contest you are looking for -

Trust me, Kevin, Owner of AP, would not be handing over a 6 Month Gold membership if the contest did not have merit ~

      ....God bless you,

      Bear ~

I am going through the entries we have already, and I am not being shy about DQ'ing, as we have prewarned ALL of you on the Contest page -

I can see soooo many of you have forgotten what Creative Themes....Poetic Tone & Poetic Beauty, as well as CLICHE' means......sorry...God bless you,

    Attention Poets!

OK Poets......enough of all this bickering back & forth with Judges.....we don't have timne to explain why your entry was pulled.....this is why we posted it on the FRONT PAGE.....your work will be pulled if not PO' Quality.....period ~

We have been around for 100 PO' Contests, and never have we had such confusion.....if you do not agree with our decisions....please pull your work!

    Judges ~

If you feel as though an entry reads Prose' with Short Story Tones.....please alert the Poet that we are only searching for Poetic Tone and Poetic Voice & Format ~

Place their write on hold, for other Judges to see, and let them (the Poet) know that they may enter again ~

How do you remove graphics to enter them in the contest? I can't find anything on the edit page that allows me to remove the graphic. I just removed my entry because I misread the rules and (before the judges saw) did not wish to be dq'd for not following them, but now can't figure out how to remove it. I will not re-enter this one as it has been seen by a judge, but can't enter another before your contest closes if I can't figure this out. ( my muse is still asleep)

    Questions???

Wondering...If we have a prewrite that was entered into one of your contest (not a "PO" contest) judged by only you, that we have since edited (by your recommenditation) and added more depth. Other judges have not seen I'm sure, may we enter it into THIS contest?

    Attention Judges!

I feel as though some of you are missing the point of this contest.....Creativity is what we are searching for ~

If a Poet takes a common topic and tries to hide it in Metaphors or imagery.....then that is not being Creative ~

We are looking for Themes which blow us away and make us wonder and think......wow, now THAT is amazing!

As Amera has said....this is a tough Contest.....and Creativity is the only way they are going to win......so please do not sugar-coat their work...

....either it's a Creative Masterpiece, or it's not.....please be honest with your Poets as you read, review and critique their work......this is why they are here.....for honesty ~

    God bless,

    Bear ~

    Attention Poets!

Once a judge comments on your work...you may not edit...that INCLUDES
entering a new poem in its place...please DO NOT pull your entry and re-submit a new one....It is NOT allowed...and you could face being DQ.
    Best wishes to all!

    Attention Judges!

This was just sent out to each Entrant..>>>>

    OK Poets!

The POY closed 65 minutes ago.....all of your Judges are going to be sending me their ( 10 ) favorite entries with scores from their own personal scoreboards in the next 72 hours, each board will total 100 points......we wish you all the best.....we know each of you gave your best efforts, and that is what we expected....nothing less ~

We will then pick the Top ( 10 ) out of the several sent in, by highest points earned, as there is going to be quite a few more than 10 Fav.'s total sent in to me ~

Each Judge has taken a considerable amount of time to read, review, critique and score your writes....I hope you all take a moment to send them a personal thank you*...

...the Poet with the highest points wins it...there are only 3 HM's....there has always been 3 HM's in the PO' Contests....please do not feel offended if you do make it the top ( 6 ) spots......it's a contest for the Best.....then Silver, then Bronze, and then ( 3 ) HM's.....pretty simple stuff ~

Bless you ALL for coming out to support this contest.....we could not have done this without your talented quills....good luck!

    My thanks to all judges.

I think the diversity of opinion between judges highlights the fact that we all view poetry in a very individualist way.

I was very gratified to recieve such a great comment from criketjeff on my entry (My Town), as I value his opinion very highly.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.

I'm not comfortable with receiving an HM in the manner it happened. Only one judge scored my poem in the top ten. The fact he scored it number one still didn't mean I was entitled to an HM.

My opinion is that when we enter a contest we have to accept the opinion of the judge(s). We don't have to like or agree with their opinion, but we have to accept it.

I openly admit I am surprised by some of the judging, but I'm sure everyone did their best and no one played favourites.

    Good luck to all.

  • Hello Poets and Fellow Judges

Firstly, it was an honour to judge this POY. There were a lot of amazing writes that I and the others had the privilege of reading and scoring, and I, personally, had a great time doing it

Of course, every rose has its thorn. I don't see why people feel the need to pick on us for scoring your entries the way we did. The stipulations are on the contest-page, people... If you don't like it, then DON'T ENTER! You're just wasting your time (and ours) with all this unnecessary bickering back and forth. As a former contestant in both the POW and the POM, I will attest that it's important to follow the rules if you want to play the game; no different here than anywhere else.

Bear has done a lot for our community here at AP, and it breaks my heart that people have the gall to not only disobey the rules outright, but to jump down the throat of the host when he calls them on it.
That said, congratulations to the winners, and until next time, may the might of your pens always be your strength

    Congrats to the winners!!!

Sadly, I am only now getting online after...I'm guessing about 3, or maybe 4 days...worth of nearly indescribable pain...I am so very sorry I couldn't be a larger part of this POY.

Bear...you have done an outstanding job as poet, judge, and host of these contests...the POY being no exception. You have my deepest respect for the hard work put into every contest...and if ANYONE doubts how difficult a job it is, I would tell them to try walking in your shoes...I did, for just a couple of weeks, and got quite an awakening as to how much (forgive me for saying it, but...) utter CRAP you have to put up with from poets ( and occasionally even judges ) who whine and complain. You can't make everyone happy all the time, but I believe you've made the correct calls needed, to make these contests the success they've been...God Bless you Sweetie...I will always support you and the work you are doing!

A huge thanks to the POY judges...and islekine in particular...for stepping up to take on such a huge responsibility and job, that judging these contests is. I believe you've each done a great job, simply by giving opinions to the best of your knowledge and ability...it gives every entry in the POY a chance to see how their work is seen by several, instead of just one or two, judges.

And now...I am off to visit our Gold winner (and hopefully a few others) before pain meds kick in again.

    My love to all,
    ~J. (trista)

Bear, you and the other judges, any who have judged even one PO contest know how hard it is. It's rewarding, but difficult and very time consuming.

Bear and Trista, you protected me from harshness and encouraged me in my skills, both as judge and contestant. Thank you.
