"Human rights - and wrongs"

A one-day competition to honour Human Rights Day (10 December).

RULES:

1. Subject: Any aspect of Human Rights - or their abuse.

2. Length: Any.

3. Form and style: Any.

4. Number of entries per person: unlimited.

5."Previously written" entries. YES - and these will be eligible for bonuses.

6. "Format": PLAIN White or VERY pale pastel background, black typing. PLEASE.

7. Author's Notes. Please keep these to the absolute minimum. As far as possible, all relevant "information" should be incorporated in the poem itself.

8. Commenting on other people's work. PLEASE WAIT until the competition has been judged - and then your comments will be eligible to earn you bonus points.

I am at present only putting up the minimum number of points (400) for first place.
If, however, the number (and quality) of the entries justifies it, I shall increase this number and award points for poems placing 2nd - 10th.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on December 19, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:
Thank you all for entering the "Human Rughts - and Wrongs" competition. I apologize for the delay in judging it. This was partly due to my having - simultneously - a disruptionof my home due to a new heating system being installed, and a bad attack of bronchitis - The other factor was that one entrant, when trying to change the colour-scheme of his entry to make it more legible accidentally deleted it completely - not only from the competition, but from the entire Allpoetry site... And it took some time for him to cope with restoring it..

    Anyway, here are the results...

There will be aditional points for the poets placed 4th to 10th, bonuses for all "previously written" entries that fulfilled the rules of the competition, and bonuses for entrants who comment on other competitors' work during the appropriate period - i.e. from NOW until 2 January.

Please note that to gain this bonus, your comments must be at least 50 words in length excluding any quotations, and written in standard English, avoiding slang, textspeak and jargon). There will be a 50 point bonus for poets who make appropriate comments on THREE other entrants' work, and an additional 20 points for each additional comment. (But please note that comments made BEFORE the competition was judged do not count towards the bonus).

Please note that to qualify for bonuses, you MUST leave your poem(s) on the competition page until the end of the commenting period (i.e. until 2 January) at which time I shall notify you all individually about your bonuses.

And - since sometimes people do remove their poems in spite of this request, for safety, when you have made your comments, please send me an IM message listing the poems on which you have commented.

Finally, if i have not yet commented on your entry/entries, please accept my apologies. I shall most certainly do so as soon as I am able... but as I have indicated, my life is somewhat disrupted at the moment, and my internet time is consequently limited.
