Provocative And Persuasive Poetry

I'm a freshman in college and I recently decided to major in sociology. I consider myself a deep thinker. Plus, my college writing and speech classes both assigned persuasive projects.
I've been finding it hard to come up with the right words to say to sculpt a persuasive and/or provocative work of art. However, I'm in the mood to read some amazing poetry.
Occasionally, I'll come across a few poems that challenge thoughts and norms. To be honest though, I've been seeing a lot of run of the mill poetry lately.
So here's what I want:
1. Provocative poetry that steps "outside the box." In other words, something that will conjure deep thinking and something that was conjured by deep thoughts.
2. Persuade me to believe something... Anything. Even if you don't persuade me, if I can read it and see it from your perspective then you formed your argument well.
It sounds simple, but I have high expectations. Points will go up depending on the quality of the entries and I will be very critical when commenting. You'll know if you did well based on my comments. If I feel compelled to share my thoughts and interpretations with you, give yourself a pat on the back.
I won't insult your intellegence with rules. The basics will do. I assume that anyone who enters this contest is smart and perceptive enough to know what I mean.
Write using any style that you like. Put a lot of work into it or share one of your most provocative and/or persuasive works.
Ok, get to writing and submitting.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on December 21, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 700, Silver: 700, Bronze: 700
  • Final notes:
Well, it's the holiday season and I'm feeling very giving. So all winners receive the same amount of points. Actually, that isn't the reason. I think that I made the best decision in selecting the finalists.
The winner's style and ideas blew me away. The second one was very truthful and also had marvelous imagery. The third poem sparked much discussion.
My advice to anyone who entered this contest is to read the 23 other entries. If you're in the mood for a wide range of topics that will take your breath away, please take me up on my sugestion.
To all that didn't win, please don't be disappointed. Although you didn't win points, you won my respect. I'm adding every single one of you to my favorites.
Speaking of favorites, this was the best contest and turn out that I've ever had. I loved the concepts expressed and you all did a fantastic job of meeting the prompt's requirements. I hope to come up with another contest that is similar intellectually.
Great poems, fantastic job, and most importantly, thank you all for enering. Happy holidays to all of you.
