Footprints on the moon from the first known moon landing by humans from earth, so many years ago. The footprints and disturbances, equipment and the U.S. flag...are all presumably still there...so little seems to change on the surface of the moon.
ONE HUNDRED is the key for the form of the contest...one hundred words is the maximum permitted... any form is allowed, and it can be in any format including prose.
Prompt:
In one hundred words or less, tell us something that you feel about the idea of
Footprints...
Judging will reward creativity and depth of thought, the style and poetic beauty of the piece will also be important here... feel free to use metaphor [especially if you can do it without losing the attention and comprehension of the Judge], humor especially if outrageous and anti- war, pro-environment, and makes fun of Republicans [just kidding about the Republicans...I'd prefer they not be mentioned at all].
One hundred words maximum ... oh ... Fun is permitted ...
Feel free to reserve a spot while you compose your masterpiece...

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on December 5, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 700, Silver: 500, Bronze: 300, Honorable mention: 3 people
- Final notes: The contest Footprints has ended. We have some wonderful poetry in theses entries, the work reflected a high quality of writing.
My Choices for the awards are as follows:
The Road to Xanadu – Gold Award Winner
This poem speaks to war and confusion of ideals for peace and abundant life are the high pursuits, and we have strayed so badly for the kinds of reasons and mistakes described here, so poetically well…for Gold, excellent work.
Gravity – Silver Award Winner
This poem interpreted the theme in broad almost universal concepts and brought it back to the hunter heart seeking to find something as complex as a universe, the human spirit and feelings of connection. Splendid use of imagery here and so very well done for Silver.
As Page In Making Bronze Award Winner
Two sriking lines and wonderful imagery to connect the theme of traces of things we can only guess have led humans to the present place, and led to the dazzling complexity and beauty of nature. Many things fall from the skies, so true. Very well done for Bronze.
bare feet – Emerald Award Winner
Sometimes a glimpse at a photo is a look into our happiness, the things that make us who we are… so often we can be reminded of the true joys of life: Love, friendship, family… an excellent prose style writing for Emerald.
Flying Fish – Emerald Award Winner
This poem is the odd and stylistic piece that seems to carry much of someone’s personality…unique way of seeing the world [ quite a talent of itself really] wonderful use of imagery in a sparse style, that also seems to have some dimensions to the ideas. Very well done for Emerald.
Like footprints on the moon.
For me the word might have been stay[s]
or even plays… but there is a wonderful sense of beauty in this piece, a form in rhyme with refrains, and the refrains make wonderful variations on the theme. This was creative and beautiful in form for Emerald.
Thanks to all who entered to take the creative challenge of footprints, I enjoyed reading your work, there were many more worthy poems than awards here, a wonderful result showing so much talent and creativity.
Thanks to all, look forward to seeing everyone back in the next contest… please be safe and well…PK

And while our hats are off, let us not fail to give honor to the likes of such great men as the socialist genius, LBJ, creator of the, ahem, "Great" Society that eventually crippled millions of the poor by giving handouts rather than opportunities.
And we musn''t forget our peanut-farming friend who (admittedly) is fantastic with a hammer and nails, but should've donned his tool belt long before Iran Contra and the lovely economic mess he helped contruct. Thankfully, there was Reagan, who brought us out... one trickle at a time...and whose policies paved the way for the economic success enjoyed during Clinton's administration.
And while we speak of THAT fine Arkansan moralist, let us be sure to thank him for his wisdom in encouraging folks to live above their means and take on mortgage debt they couldnt repay...till poor Fannie had to tuck her skirt tail and run. And, yes, Georgie Porgie has taken the fall for the tragic repercussions of such economic policies, which, though a while in coming, were inevitable. Gravitas, indeed.
Oh , yes, there are many hats to be removed, to be sure. Many heads to be bowed ... whether out of respect or in desperate prayer... I guess each of us will have to decide for ourselves.
Always a hoot, PK.

Ok, then the country should... Elect Palin in 2012 ... hmmm that Mayan Calendar thing... hmmm....
-
-
Touche!
TOO HILARIOUS. This ol' ball's gonna quit rollin' one way or another! Might as well go out with a BANG!!! Yep, I like your thinkin'!
Unfortunately, Palin would not take office until 2013, leaving our beloved, ever-charismatic hero as the Mayan calander centerfold.
