Cynthia Kadohata wrote an amazing book, called Kira-Kira. (You should read it. But now I'll go back to the point of my contest). There are three options:
1: Kira-kira, according to the book, is a Japanese word meaning "glittering." I'd like you to write something about that: what you think is glittering.
2: In the book, Lynn, the older sister of the narrator, says:
"The blue of the sky is one of the most special colors in the world, because the color is deep but see-through both at the same time. The ocean is like that too, and people's eyes." You can write whatever it inspires, about all three things or just one.
3. In the contest, Katie (the narrator)'s older sister Lynn dies. Before her death, Lynn was sick, and had asked Katie for milk. Katie brought it; Lynn didn't want it, and asked for water. Katie brought water, but Lynn threw the glass down and wanted milk. Katie said she hated Lynn. After Lynn died, she felt guilty. Have you ever hated someone you loved, or lost someone close?
Rules:
No cliche. PLEASE no cliche.
Nothing over 60 lines long.
Any style, but I love free verse.
Metaphors and imagery will be doubly welcomed.
Nothing adult.
Option in AN, please.
GOLD WINNER MUST PIF!
I suck at it, but I enjoy dirty pretty (but not in excess, and it's fine if you don't do that!)
Please check spelling.
Up to three entries per person!
Please be inspired!

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on December 16, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 300, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 5 people
- Final notes: Thank you for your entries. Not many, thankfully, but still, everything was great. I am sincerely grateful that they were all written just for this contest, not prewrites like I usually guess. All of the poems were beautiful. Thanks!

That was an amazing book! I've heard of very few people who have read it, but it's so poetic and full of emotion! This is a great idea for a contest.
