The Great Villanelle

 Dylan Thomas

Competition Guidelines:

  • Villanelles only.

  • One poem per contestant.

  • Prewritten entries are acceptable.

  • All poems must have good form in order to make it to the finals but perfect form does not guarantee victory. If your entry breaks a rule of the Villanelle form it must somehow be reflected in the self-logic of the poem without a disclaimer. Traditional invocation of a patron is also not required.

  • All poems must be poetic and contemporary. Please use literary device.

  • All subjects are acceptable.

  • All entries must be presented on a clean background with no images. Make sure the text contrasts to make your presentation readable

  • Indentation is fine but DO NOT center your poem! It is an eyesore and no good Villanelle should ever be held at the mercy of auto-formatting.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 21, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 3000, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 3 people
  • Final notes:

    Judging a little bit early.

Long live the King takes Gold with passion bursting at the seams.

Darkness Calls takes silver with its inspirational quality

This Mouth that Smiles with Lips Turned Down wins bronze as a very creative first attempt for the author and my personal favorite entry in the contest.

I want to thank everyone for entering. Great poetry. Peace.
