I had an epiphany while reading in the bathroom. ( I know- TMI!- but I thought you might get a chuckle out of my mentioning that!
)
I was reading a book by Barbara Johnson about laughing and Heaven, and it had a little picture in it with some white, hightop tennis shoes, with the caption, "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye..."
When I read the word "twinkle", it made me think of the song Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star... and immediately, I wanted to put those two thoughts together, so I wrote this!:
Twinkle, twinkle little eye,
In a moment, we willl fly;
Death will lose its sting for me,
Swallowed up in victory;
Twinkle, twinkle little eye,
In a moment, we will fly.
Now you see what I have done- this is what I want YOU to do!
I want you to find a semi-short children's nursery rhyme, and use it to inspire you into some spiritual thinking, and write it over again, with some scriptural* content!
There are a few rules, of course:
1. YOU CANNOT USE A POEM THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS ALREADY USED. (And since I'm not going to give you a list to choose from, you'll just have to check and see for yourself who has used what!)
2. It MUST have the same rhyme pattern and meter of the original poem.
3. It should be a poem under twenty lines, unless you can make something REALLY impressive.
4. You MUST put the original poem used parodied in your author's contents (- so I won't have to go hunting for them!).
5. You may NOT use Mary Had a Little Lamb- I've already done that one before.
EDIT- *** ONLY ONE ENTRY, PLEASE!!! ***
There are points for all trophy winners, as well as a few honorable mentions...
So, get writing!
*EDIT: When I say "scriptural" content, I'm referring EXCLUSIVELY to the Christian Bible. (My own preference is the King James Version.) I apologize if there was any misunderstanding about this.
*EDIT (11-18-08) If you need help finding rhyming words, go here:

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on December 8, 2008
- Rewards: Gold: 400, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 2 people
- Final notes: Whew! I'm sorry it took me so long to judge this!
Well, I didn't think that this contest would be that hard, but apparently it was. I noticed many people had problems figuring out the rhythm to their poems. I did applaud everyone, just for their effort.
The first place winner was the one that actually did this. The second place winner, though off in rhythm, really put in a great effort for her piece, with alot of good content. And the third place winner came very close with the rhythm, as well. My two honorable mentions received theirs for quality of content and effort, as well.
I'll have to try this again someday... Congrats to all!

Oh bless you, good poet!

What a splendid idea for a contest!
Cleverness overflows!

Aw... thank you! *blush*
I don't do many contests on here, and I really kind-of like to... I'm more of a form poet myself. But I like to try to inspire some kind of quality, you know?
Here's to hoping for some clever entries!

I would love to write for this, but fail to see the list to choose from. Could you let me know when you post it? Thanks and God Bless.

I'm Not Posting A List...
... You'll just have to see what's already taken, and go hunting for another one yourself. I'm sure if you google "nursery rhymes", you're bound to find many to choose from... only, you have to figure out how to twist it into something biblical. That's the challenge!
God speed on your quest!
